Rain drops on roses ….

July 12, 2007 by Tricia

How does that song go? Rain drops on Roses, whiskers on kittens … these are a few of my favorite things ..

Well here’s the first item on that list:

William Baffin Rose

Last week, I believe it was Tuesday, it rained all day. I looked out the window and the flowers in my garden were just looking magical. I’d been aching to try out my new camera so I took it out with me and before I knew it I’d taken over 100 photos!

I think this photo of a William Baffin turned out fairly well for someone who’s an armature with a digital SLR camera.

When I go through the photos I took that day I can really see how I progressed with my new camera. The first photos looked very ordinary, but within just a few moments the camera felt comfortable in my hand and I began experimenting with a few of the settings.

I didn’t do much experimenting as there was a very light rain falling and my camera soon had a fine mist covering it. Back indoors I went. I did manage to take quite a few photos in 15 or 20 minutes though.

Someone asked recently in the comment area what kind of camera I have. Well I have three now, but the one that I’ve been talking about lately is my new Canon EOS 30D digital SLR camera. I’m still very green with this camera and it’s many features so I can’t really tell anyone much about it. It did have a number of good ratings though and I’m quite pleased with it so far. I think I’ve taken about 400 pictures to date and the majority have turned out well.

this is a really nice photo, i think you could work a bit more on focusing to blir the background to put more emphasis on the flower.

Hi Tricia, I went over to click on your blog on the Postie’s blog roll when I saw it was updated and was blown away with this picture! Seriously! It’s so beautiful! I have the Canon 400D (Rebel xTi) and havent been able to really learn with it yet, and it has been with me for four months, LOL.

That’s a really great shot. I’ve been thinking about upgrading my digital camera and I’ve heard some good things about the Canons but seeing pictures taken with them is better.

Thanks for the tip on the camera… I’ve been in the market for one for quite a while (as I still have my 5 year old HP 2.3 Mega pixel, embarrassingly enough). I’ll definitely be checking out some reviews on your Canon later. (good tip for folks, if you don’t already do it, cnet reviews and amazon reviews are a good place to go when researching a potential purchase.)

That said, I can’t say I care for the subject matter here… Raindrops on roses? Please, show me something I haven’t seen! I’m much more intrigued by the idea of raindrops on kittens, and whiskers on roses.

That is an absolutely wonderful photo. I love it. The Canon cameras are great ones, we are a Nikon house but I have a P&S Canon that I love.

Great picture. I work with a guy who brings his SLR to work every day. I will probably use one of his pics in my blog someday. Whenever there is something interesting happening outside, work stops so he can get a picture. I don’t usually bother digging out my 1.3 megapixel point and shoot jobby.

Educational Toys – considering that this was perhaps the third photo that I ever took with my brand new SLR I think it turned out ok. ๐Ÿ™‚ But yes portions of the photo could be better.

Aggie thank you, I’m glad to hear that you enjoyed the photo and that seeing it in the RSS feed made you come for a visit. This new cannon I have is also in the Rebel XTi line. I read the whole booklet that came with it and it gave me some insight but I haven’t had a lot of time to really experiment with all of it’s features yet. I do know, since I love taking macro photos, that I’ll probably get another lens for it soon.

Mark it was a toss up between the Cannon or the Nikon. I can’t remember which Nikon I was looking at but it was of a similar price range as the Canon. Nikon is a better name for SLR cameras but so far I’m quite happy with my Canon. Happy to hear you enjoyed the photo. I post quite a few photos on my sites so come back and visit. ๐Ÿ™‚

I am glad to see you are enjoying your new camera. That is a great picture. You have captured the effect well. I wish I could take better pictures. I just ask my husband to take them.
