Worldwide Hostel listings at Hostelbookers.com – the cheaper way to travel

March 1, 2007 by Tricia

Last summer we had a border staying in our home. She was from Korea. Last July she had the opportunity to take a four day bus trip/tour of New York City so she decided to go on the trip. As it turned out she didn’t end up taking the trip through the school but went on her own – causing us much worry when she didn’t come home until two days after we’d expected her to return as some of you might recall.

It turns out that she stayed in at least two New York Hostels while she was in New York City. I’m not sure if she booked her stay in the hostels on her own or if one of the friends that she met in New York did it for her but either way, she stayed in hostels because it was a much less expensive way to stay in the city and to be able to afford to see many of the places in New York that interested her.

Just now I was visiting hostelbookers.com and if I had another border, or if I’d known about this site last summer I would most definitely recommend it to anyone wanting to travel to New York or any other city and save money while vacationing.

Hostelbookers.com is an online hostel booking service. Their rates are the cheapest online.

You know what I like about hostelbookers.com? You can search the site in a number of ways. For example, suppose you are planning a trip to New York and you wanted to see if there are any Hostels in the area that you think you’ll do the majority of your site seeing in. Just use their interactive Google map to search for hostels in the area that you are interested in. Click on the numbered hostels in the area that you’d like to stay in and you can find out how they’ve been rated by others who’ve stayed there in the past.

After you’ve used the interactive map, or rather than using the interactive map, you can simply click on the city that you’d like to travel to and get a list of all the hostels in that city. When you view the listed of Hostels you’ll be able to see the price for a shared or private room, and the rating that other site members have given the Hostel.

To get more information about a particular hostel simply click it’s name in the listing and you’ll be taken to a new page that has detailed information about the hostel. You’ll find information such as whether there’s a curfew, 24 hour reception, hot showers, if you’ll be able to access the internet, whether there’s air conditioning plus many more pieces of interesting information such as common tourist attractions that are nearby. You’ll also be able to view photos of the rooms. I was pleasantly surprised to see that many of the rooms look quite a bit like pleasant bed and breakfast style rooms.

You can check prices and availability from the hostels information page, and then you can go on to book your room if you decide that your interested in staying in that hostel.

You don’t have to register or log in to Hostelbookers.com to view the vast amount of information on the site. I also like the fact that they come right out and say that there are no hidden charges or booking fees. The price that you see when you are checking prices and availability is the price that you’ll be charged.

After seeing how nice many of the rooms are, and how cheap they are too, I think I’d consider staying in a Hostel the next time I visit New York city. Especially if I ended up saving enough money that I could see two Broadway shows instead of just one. Sure, why not.

If you use Hostelbookers.com or if you’ve stayed in any of the Hostels that they have listed don’t forget to go back and rate the hostel. The more ratings they have from past hostel guests the better.

What do you think this blog is about?

March 1, 2007 by Tricia

As I was saying in an earlier post “Time to take stalk and work on our blogs” I’m going to be giving a number of Chris and I’s sites a makeover.

This site might get a makeover too. This is where my readers and visitors come in.

What do you think? Should I stick with this theme? Just tidy it up a bit, and get it a little more organized so it’s easier to find anything that you’d like to find on this blog?

I know that many of my visitors really like the look and feel of this site and I’d hate to change it if a little tidying and organization would be enough.

When I started this, my first blog, a little more than a year ago I did it with the intention of talking about my illness (Crohn’s disease), but I quickly decided that I didn’t want to talk about how sick I feel or how much pain I’m in as that just brings me down and if it brings me down … well I’d probably have few readers other than those that felt as bad as I do.

So I began talking about everything and anything that interested me. As time went on I discovered that I talked about gardening and photography quite a bit. So I decided to create blogs where I could post about those two subjects. Well, my photoblog is just photos. It would probably be a good thing if I made yet another blog where I also spoke about my passion for photography as well.

I think it was a good idea to create new blogs so I could focus my other interests better. This blog would be even more cluttered if I hadn’t done that.

Along the way I think I’ve found this blogs voice, but I’d like to get your opinion on that as well. Yes it’s a general blog. There’s no hiding that. However, which topics or genres stand out as being main topics when you read this blog? Please don’t count the last two months or so, because I’ve been feeling awful and haven’t been writing from the heart as much as I used to. Go back a couple of months and decide what you think this blog is about.

I know I discuss Toronto, my neighbors and neighborhood quite often – and interactions with my crazy neighbors too! I also talk about life here at home, life with Chris, shopping adventures and home renovations, and cool web related finds. My feeling is that this blog would fall into the Home and Living, Shopping and perhaps entertainment genres with a side of web technology.

What do you think?

I want to be clearer in my topics on this site. More focused. Which direction do think this blog is heading?
