In the daisy patch

What is nicer than a patch of daisies?

Actually this “daisy” is Rudbeckia fulgida Goldstrum.

I was just reminiscing about growing sunflowers and how they alway make me remember great hot summer days whenever I see a photo of one. I feel almost the same way about these flowers, except there’s a slight tinge of regret as well.

You see these flowers often bloom well into September and October, and while they are very pretty and add some color and life to the garden when other plants have stopped flowering, they always remind me that that a cold season will be upon us soon.

No matter how this flower makes me feel there’s no denying that I’m longing for spring and summer to hurry up and get here. I’ve had enough of winter and dull colors. I want to see the light greens of spring, and smell the scent of a spring shower.

What is it? 10 more days or so and it will be spring? I can’t wait!

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows for more information.

Free ringtones for your cell – top bands and TV shows

March 10, 2007 by Tricia

Have you ever gone looking for free Ringtones for your cell phone on the Internet only to find a bunch of ringtones that are just muzak. You know – electronic music that sounds a bit like the song you were looking for, but not really? They never have any vocals either of course, and are often worse than elevator music.

Well I was just visitingMSNEmotions.org and I spent some time in their free ringtone section. They have a huge selection of more than 1000 ringtones to browse through. I mean they’re real songs! There’s a top 40 billboard list, as well as songs from all the top bands. They also have TV show ringtones too.

I really like the Red Hot Chili peppers so when I saw that they had Californication I immediately downloaded it for my cell. It was really easy to do. I just downloaded it to my computer and then uploaded it to my phone. Done!

The ringtones should work on any cell phone that supports wav/mp3 ringtones like Nokia, Motorola, Samsung, Ericcson and most of the major cell phone brands.

Check it out if you want ringtones from your favorite bands on your cell. Oh, they also have free cellphone wallpaper too.

Working on our sites – Odd Planet gets makeover

March 10, 2007 by Tricia

I busy working on redesigning some of Chris and I’s websites! The first one to get a major makeover is Odd Planet. It has a totally new look!

I’ve been busy trying to get that site organized. I added a new wordpress plugin called SimpleTag to all of our WordPress sites. I haven’t activated it on all the sites yet, but it’s working on Odd Planet. Check out the Tag and Category cloud that I added to that site. Now it’s easy to see what kind of topics are posted about most often or to bring up all the posts under a specific category or tag – like “Strange Happenings” or “Dumb Criminals” for example.

I was using Jeromes Keywords and Related posts on our sites, and still am on some, but it hasn’t been updated for use on WordPress 2.1 and the tags would disappear whenever anyone would leave a comment on one of the sites. Now we can have tags in posts and show related posts with this new simpletag plugin too.

It’s taking a bit of time since I have to convert the keywords that I was using with Jerome’s Keywords to SimpleTag format. It’s easy enough and doesn’t take much time but it’s an extra step that I’ll have to go through on each site as I activate the plugin.

Anyway, go check out Odd Planet and leave Chris a comment if you like the new look. It’s certainly easier to leave comments there now that the site isn’t using a mucked up theme!

Update: For some reason this post was marked private. I never mark posts private. I wonder if my messing around with things caused a little glitch? Weird thing is that I haven’t even begun to work on the mess that is this site! Oops!

Wrought Iron decor for the home

March 9, 2007 by Tricia

My husband and I are still in renovation mode in our home. Yes, we’ve slowed down over the last year or so, but I still keep my eye out for interesting items that I can use in the house once all of our work is finished.

I’m certain that I’ve come across the Wrought Iron Decor Store in the past and bookmarked it. So I figured that I might tell my readers about this great online store now since Spring is coming. I know that if you’re anything like me, along with getting the Spring cleaning done, you might take a look at your decor and decided to buy some new items for your home to spruce it up or begin to get into redecorating mode. I know that whenever this feeling has hit me it’s almost always been during the Spring time.

I really like a number of the products at the Wrought Iron Decor store. They have beautifully designed wrought iron wall hangings and wall grilles in all different shapes and sizes. They also carry wrought iron hanging lanterns with brackets that you could place a tea light or small candles in, in order to give a room a romantic look. Kitchen and bath decor, wall sconce, garden decor, wine racks and accessories all make up just a portion of the great wrought iron items that they carry.

If you like these kind of items take a look at the site. I’m fairly certain that I’ll be making a purchase from this store some time in the future since many of the items go with the look I’m trying to create for my home.

A week of appointments

March 9, 2007 by Tricia

In a short while I’ll be leaving for my third doctors appointment this week! Three in one week is just too much.

The first was with my pain doctor. She finally prescribed a pain medication that I’ve alluded to in the past. I’m going to try it for the first time later this evening when my husbands home. I would have tried it earlier, but I have strange reactions to drugs – often in the form of allergic reactions, so it’s better that my husband is around, not sleeping and available to take me to the ER if necessary when I try it! I’ll write more about this new medication tomorrow after I’ve taken my first dose.

The next appointment was on Wednesday with my Gastrointernologist. Remember I swallowed that camera pill? The results were inconclusive because they still couldn’t see all of my small bowel! I have to go for even more tests! God I just wish I’d start feeling better and not have to go through all these tests etc.

Todays appointment is with the Occupational health doctor at the hospital where I work. I say work with a grain of salt because I haven’t actually done a shift there for 14+ months now due to this illness. There’s been no change for the better in my health so there isn’t much I can tell him. I might be coming down to the wire though were he might tell me that he can’t keep me off work indefinitely for much longer. I’m starting to face up to the fact that if I don’t start to get better soon I may end up losing a job that I love.

I’ll tell you how this last appointment went later today or sometime tomorrow.
