Birds of a feather?

March 7, 2007 by Tricia

Birds of a feather?

At first this looks like a cute photo of a bunch of small birds gathered on a tree branch doesn’t it? Well it is a cute photo.

Take a closer look though … two of the birds are an odd color. They are very blue. I have no idea if the birds are all the same species and if the colorful ones are just males of the species, or if there are two different types of birds on the branch.

What do you think? Does anyone know what type of birds these might be?

There’s 2 different species of bird there. You’ve got male and female zebra finches: the males are ones with the orange cheeks and spotted and striped plumage; the females are plain grey.

The blue ones are a different species, but I don’t know what unfortunately.. sorry!

I don’t know what species that is either. Probably the blue ones are the males.

Don’t know breed, but wonder if they are captive birds like I’ve seen in some large houses.
    They sure are cute!!
    Happy WW ^..^

I’ve never seen a photo encapsulate such a common saying so well! It’s fantastic!

Zebra finches for sure. I’m pretty sure the blue ones are “Cordon Bleu” finches (native to equatorial Africa).

I don’t have a clue what kind of birds these are, but I really like them. That’s one thing we never tire of seeing in the winter… birds at our feeders.
    Happy WW!
