How do you feel about video spokespersons on websites?

February 3, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been to a few sites lately that have a pop up videospokesperson, usually in the lower right hand corner of the page that pops up and tells you something about the page that you are on, the website or the product or service that I’m viewing as I visit that particular page.

Have you seen those pop up video spokespeople on some of the sites you’ve visited? How do you feel about them? Are they helpful?

Regonline.com, and event planning company, says that when they use a pop up videospokesperson on registration pages that they’ve found that registration has increased by 11%.

I have mixed feelings about these videospokesperson pop ups. You see I’m the type of person that reads a site before I sign up for a service. Perhaps that stems from living outside the US. I’ve signed up for sites or services before only to find out once I’m registered that only US citizens can participate. So I read a sites terms of service or FAQ before signing onto a service that might send me multiple emails or one that I’d had to not be able to use once I’ve gone through the process of registering to use.

In my opinion, If a videospokesperson popped up and told me relevant information such as who can register for a service, and what the service will mean to me once I’m a registered member I might be more likely to sign up without doing as much reading of the site as I usually do.

If you’ve encountered them, how do you feel about those video pop up spokespeople? Have you found them to be helpful? Are you more likely to sign up for a service when one shows up and tells you about it? Does it make the site feel a little more personalized? I’d love to hear what you think.

Our other sites are keeping us busy!

February 2, 2007 by Tricia

I’ve been handing out linky love to everyone else but I’ve been neglecting to mention what my husband and I have been doing on our other sites lately.

Chris has been busy working on his Guitar and music related site. It’s called Guitar Licks. He’s been spending time writing about his guitar collection lately. You would not believe how many guitars we have in this house! I’ve got to take photos of them so he can add them to his posts. One of his latest posts is about his old HiWatt. Man that thing had good sound!

Every day my husband comes home and checks to see if anyone left him a comment. Would you please do me a favor and find a post on his site that you like and say HI? We know the sites been getting visitors- many coming in from Google related searches, but no one but me has left him a comment. Can you give him a little bit of comment love?

As you may know today is Ground Hog day here in North America. I’m really not sure where else in the world that this event / day is celebrated, but I’m sure it’s not just in North America. Anyway, if you visit my gardening site As the Garden goes, I’m asking people to report as to whether their local ground hog saw it’s shadow or not. If it didn’t see it’s shadow that means you’ll have an early spring. Visit As the Garden grows and tell me how your ground hog did.

Over on Watching House I’ve written up a fantastic recap of the latest new episode “One Day, One Room”. I think it came out to over 4000 words! I mentioned a number of medical mistakes that they made in the episode in my write up and explained why I thought they were mistakes. If you’re interested take a look. Perhaps you like Dr. Cameron? If you do I just posted a bio for Jennifer Morrison today.

One of the funniest photos I’ve seen in a long time is over on Odd Planet. You’ve got to take a look at Chris’ Wordless Wednesday post.

I’ve always got photos up at Breath of Life. I guess I’m yearning for spring and the nice weather to return lately as I’ve been posting a lot of flower photos. There’s an ice sculpture exhibition here in Toronto this week. Chris and I are going to go to see it either this evening or sometime on Saturday. Hopefully I’ll get some great photos of cool ice sculptures and be able to post those on my photoblog soon. In the mean time if you’d like to see some lovely garden mums have a peek.

I’ve been busy posting news about all the celebrities and socialites over at Celebrity Scoop. One of my recent posts is about Paula Abdul. Can you believe that she was named woman of the year? Wacky woman of the year sure, I can understand that.

I have one other blog that I’m working on but I’m not ready to promote it just yet. I’m hoping that I’ll have it finished by the end of the weekend though. I hope you’ll like the new site when I tell you about it. I think it might actually help a lot of people.

Did I forget any of my sites? Ah, yes I did. I have two other sites. They aren’t blogs thought. If you are into reptiles you might want to visit Reptile Logic or my oldest site Tricia’s Chinese Water dragon, Reptile and Amphibian care page. That last site is 12 years old. Yes I know it needs a major redesign. I’m working on that.

Strange spam?

February 2, 2007 by Tricia

I’m getting used to having a lot of spam come in each and every day.

For the most part Akismet is catching it all, although I still find that I have some in my moderation list that I have to weed out every now and then.

This week though, I keep getting spam that’s telling me “you’ve got too much spam” or “Delete the spam”.

Spam complaining about too much spam. That’s a new one.

What will they think of next?
