The Cloud Gate

This weeks theme is Silver

You want silver? I’ll give you silver! This is the Cloud Gate sculpture in downtown Chicago. I was there in August and was just amazed by the beauty of this huge silver “Bean” as Chicagoans call it.

Here’s a closer view – see how everyone is just amazed as they stand and look at it?

You could easily spend hours there looking at it from all angles and seeing what you could see reflected in it’s shiny dome. You could also walk below it where the sculpture becomes concave. The reflections when you are underneath it are like looking in one of those crazy funhouse mirrors.

If you ever visit Chicago I recommend that you go to see this sculpture. You’ll love it.

I got me some swag!

January 27, 2007 by Tricia

Finally!

P Swag

P has been giving away some of the P branded items to registered members. I think it’s there way of saying thanks to all of their posties for doing a good job promoting the company. I believe that the majority of P members will eventually get some free swag.

I’m not actually sure when it arrived.

You see, we found it on our enclosed front porch on Friday evening near the door, but tucked behind a chair. The green box was post marked January 9th, and the package was coming from Florida by Global Priority mail. I have no idea if that was express delivery or regular ground delivery, but I would assume that it would normally take a week or a bit more to get to me here in Toronto. So …. I have a feeling that it might have been sitting on my front porch for most of the week.

Remember it was hidden behind a chair, and whoever delivered it (probably Canada Post?) didn’t leave any notice of a package.

I had been keeping an eye on the porch just in case it arrived. I live in a pretty good neighborhood and unless something is marked with a specific value the postman often leaves packages in our enclosed porch. Usually they aren’t hidden quite as well. As I said I had looked out there every now and then glancing at the table and the surfaces of the two chairs but I didn’t see anything. Now I know why!

Anyway, as you can see the box contained one large foam finger. Maybe I can use that in one of the photo or video at some point. There was also a T-shirt that says “spreadin’ like peanut butter” , a gigantic 13 inch pen! I tried to write with it and because it’s so big it’s kind of heavy so it wasn’t that easy to write with. My husband didn’t have any trouble though. Maybe since I’m a lefty it’s harder to use? There was also a Pingo calling card worth $2.50. We can use that to make a long distance call or two. There was also a gift card for FamilyRecRoom.com but the site isn’t loading for me right now so I’m not sure what they sell. The final object was Mighty Minty Mints which I’m sure I’ll enjoy.

Take a look at the photo above. You see the rectangular box like object that’s under the round mint container? That’s the T-Shirt. I just unwrapped it so I could see what size they sent me since it doesn’t say on the outside of the package. Well the the shirt is somehow compressed into a crinkled rectangle. LOL I decided not to open it up fully because I want to show it to my husband when he gets up this morning. I hope the shirt is a small or a medium, but it feels kind of heavy like it might be a large or even bigger. Oh well, if it’s too big it will become T-shirt pj’s.

My husband also does work for Pay/perp0st on his website too. I wonder if he’ll get some swag as well? That’d be cool.

I had added up how much money that I’ve made with Pay/perp0st since I started with them in early October, and I also added how much my husband has made since he started and do you know how much we’ve made together in just a few months? Over $3,800! That would put us at number 4 on the top earners list if we weren’t two separate people! LOL

If you’ve been reading my site you know I’m not working due to my illness and that I’ve also got an $1100 medical test to pay for that I just had this week. So we can use that money.

Links of Love

January 26, 2007 by Tricia

Flavor Flav has his Flavor of Love show and I’ve got my links of love posts. I’m back with another issue of sites you don’t want to miss.

I’ll start with The Churning, this site is written by JJ and it’s a mix of eclectic posts from information about his band The Codes, to posts about whether, uh hum … There’s some interesting comments in that post. I’d say that for the most part this site is not for reading at work unless you know how to minimize quickly.

Momofthree has at least two great new blogs on her hands. The first site is called Coffee time (hey that’s the name of a popular coffee shop here in Canada, eh!) and it has a little bit of everything on it. Her other site is called Commonsense Critique and I’ve found that on that site Momofthree talks about a number of different products that really would be useful to have around in our day to day lives. Check out her sites.

The next site I want to tell you about is called Ambitiously Inquisitive. There’s a little bit of everything on this site. If you can’t find something that you like on the first page then you’re hard to please! There’s amusing stories and videos, tips on how to make money blogging, and personal tales. It’s worth a look.

I think that’s it for now! If I missed you and I had said I’d write about you please let me know.

It’s so sad to see teen drug addicts

January 26, 2007 by Tricia

As an ER nurse I’ve seen more than my fair share of people who are battling with drug and alcohol addictions. While it’s bad enough to see adults who have addictions that in many cases have pretty much ruined their lives and their health, it’s even worse when I’ve had to care for a teenager with an addiction problem.

As you can imagine, since I work in the emergency department many of the these kids that come in with symptoms of alcohol or drug abuse have actually taken it too far and have over dosed. They are in life threatening conditions.

Some times the parents of these kids knew what was happening to their child but didn’t know where to turn for help or even tried to manage the problem in their own way at home. In a few cases the parents hadn’t realized that their child was in trouble until their kid ended up in the ER.

It’s for these reasons that I’m pleased to tell you about the Echo Malibu clinic. They specialize in teen drug rehab. They give these adolescents the highest quality professional care available, and also provide 24 hour support for the families of these children since addiction affects the whole family, not just the person with the problem.

If you suspect that your child or someone you knows child has an addiction problem please seek help through a clinic such as the Echo Malibu clinic before it’s too late.

Houston the pill has landed

January 26, 2007 by Tricia

Just a quick update on my camera pill experience.

I won’t get into the gory details but the camera pill that I swallowed at about 7:30 am Wednesday morning made it’s way through my body without any major problems, even if I did feel awful all day Wednesday!

It passed through me about 16 or so hours after I swallowed it. Again, no details other than the fact that it wasn’t flashing pics anymore even though I smiled down at it and said “cheese”!

All I can do now is sit and wait and hope that it took pics of my bad areas of small bowel, and that it made it’s way to the end of my small bowel (15 feet to travel!) before the transmitter was returned to the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. If it didn’t then I just wasted $1100 that I can’t afford to begin with let alone have it wasted on a test that didn’t do it’s full job.
