Investing money and saving for the future

January 4, 2007 by Tricia

I have only one experience with buy stalk and it dates back to the days when I first owned my now closed Jewelry business. I was ill informed at the time and purchased what was suggested by the traveling “stock” salesman that came to my businesses door. Now I’m starting to think more about investments and setting myself up nicely for retirement. I know that retirement is a long way off but if I don’t begin to work on it soon I won’t have much when the time comes.

So I’ve decided to start looking at stock options, but first I need to learn more about them, and which companies are worth purchasing stock in. That’s where the stock options newsletter comes in from PowerOptions. They offer members a letter filled with information and resources about stock offerings and other important information about purchasing or selling stocks. The site is also full of resources that I can browse through in order to learn more about trading my stock options.

They also have a system that they call SmartSearchXL technology that allows members to find, compare, and analyze 2,900 + stocks, and 190,000+ options in order to find investments that suit the members needs. Their system will help you find the highest return on option trades.

I haven’t signed up for a membership yet but I might sign up for their 14 day free trial. I don’t even need to use my credit card when I sign up. I like that.

Wordless Wednesday

Kitty and doll

Even cats like a companion to sleep with. This picture is fun but something about it feels wrong.

It’s like seeing a baby with a stuffed animal but it’s the reverse. Weird. Does it give anyone else that strange feeling too?

Did you have a great New Years Eve and New Years day? Wishing you all the best in the New Year.

Strange Amazon sales

January 3, 2007 by Tricia

Ok fess up!

I was just looking at my Amazon account, checking to see if anybody bought anything through my links, or my Amazon store this week and I was very surprised to see what I had sold.

Someone bought:

Grafco® Stainless Steel Graves Vaginal Speculum, Medium (4″ x ¼”)

Speculum

I guess a doctor, or maybe a midwife came through one of my sites and then visited Amazon and bought two speculums. I didn’t even know Amazon sold medical equipment let along those things!

Amazon really does sell everything.

I wonder if it was a Christmas present?

Home Invasions! Time to get an alarm system

January 3, 2007 by Tricia

When Chris and I first moved into our house we talked about getting a security system. One of the reasons why we discussed getting one is because our insurance company had told us that they would take a fairly good percentage off of the price of our home insurance if we had a security system, and the other reason was that Chris at the time seemed very paranoid about security.

Chris, when he was a student, used to live in a house house with number of other students. It was one of those Student co-op houses. He’d come from a small town and suddenly he was in the heart of downtown Toronto, one of the largest cities in North America. He slept with a baseball bat under his bed. Nothing ever did happen while he lived there.

When we lived in an apartment, at one point we started hearing about a number of break ins, so we installed a second security lock on the door. That wasn’t enough for Chris though – we end up with a security plate on the door as well that would help prevent someone from jimmying the door. So we had the security plate, two security locks and a door chain. I know some people have even more locks on their doors but too me this was a lot of locks.

When we moved into the house we didn’t have any reason to suspect that we weren’t moving into a safe neighborhood. After talking with many of our neighbors we learned that there’d been very little crime in the area in the time that many had lived in their homes- and some had lived in their houses for 40 + years. We felt safe.

Yet we did put up a security light in our driveway between our neighbors house and our own, and one on the back porch. It goes on if an animal or person walks down the drive. I love it when I’m out watering the garden late at night and I purposely trigger the light in the driveway and the back at the house to give me some light while I’m watering and watching out for raccoons or skunks. Honest – that’s mostly what our security lights have caught – raccoons and cats. No skunks so far although I’ve smelled there presence nearby.

Lately though, there’s been a number of home invasions in the neighborhood. I’m not certain that a security system would prevent that from happening to us since the people that do home invasions often knock on the door first and get into the house under some guise – perhaps stating they are a repairman checking television cable or telephone service in the area. Ether way, many security systems have cameras and perhaps that would help in that type of situation as well as providing some peace of mind towards our Home Security and our general safety.

wirelesssecurity.gif I’ve been looking at Safecall Wireless home Security System for a few reasons. One is that it’s wireless and since we are in the middle of renovating our home, tearing out walls, and putting new ones up a wireless system suits our needs. I’d hate to install a wire one and then end up taking out a wall that the wires were in. You can program it to autodial up to 6 different numbers in the event of break in, plus it has a lot of other great features that we’re interested in.

So I guess at some point in the near future I’ll probably be posting to tell you that we have a new home security system. I’ll let you know which product we decide to purchase but the wireless system sure sounds like it would be perfect for us.

Disasterous Hockey game

January 3, 2007 by Tricia

We’re home from the hockey game. The Toronto Marlee’s lost something like 8 or 9 to 1, Geeeeez the Marlees are a bunch of brawlers. If those are the guys that are going to be sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the next year or two we’re going to keep losing for a long time to come.

Within the first 14 seconds of the game there was a pile of players punching each other and 4 penalties given out. I think the marlees got over 20 penalties through the game. Plus, when they have the puck and have an opening they don’t shoot the puck. They wait until their blocked and then shoot it. I must have seen 5 brawls in all. The last two were most of the teams fighting each other again – so that happened three times!

As I said earlier I’m not a big hockey fan at all. I barely understand the rules, but even if someone like me could see how bad they were playing then it’s bad.

Oh well it was nice to get out. I don’t get out much lately so this was fun – even if the marlee’s sucked the big one.
