Dove ad Evolution

October 31, 2006 by Tricia

Have you seen the short film put out by Dove for their Campaign for real beauty? If you haven’t you really should watch this 1 minute video.

A woman goes through having her face and hair done up for a photo shoot for an ad.

Near the end of the film, once she’s all made up and looking beautiful- going from no make up and being an average looking woman to a beautifully glamorous woman – you see her photo on a computer screen being adjusted for the ad. Her features are changed, some times very slightly, others dramatically using photoshop.

The whole point of this film is to show that none of the photos of beautiful models, actresses or actors that we see in magazines are real. They don’t look like that in real life. No one does!

Watch this very short film and tell me how you feel after seeing it:

How do you feel about your favorite magazines now?

Peer to peer loan system

October 31, 2006 by Tricia

I just came across an interesting idea. A company called Zopa has come up with an innovative investment and lending idea.

rel=”nofollow”Zopa stands for Zone of Possible Agreement. What is that? Well, it’s a peer to peer investment or loan system. It’s network of people who borrow or lend money to each other. Sounds interesting doesn’t it? If it works that would mean that you’d be cutting out the bank and all it’s charges for paperwork, and administration.

Members can borrow from one and other or make online investments. I was looking at their rates for borrowing money and at this time a personal loan’s interest rate is only 5.2%. That sounds pretty good to me.

Zopa is operating in the UK at this time but it will launch in the US shortly. I think it’s worth taking a better look at this company and what it offers.

Doctors and Med Students

October 31, 2006 by Tricia

Well, I went for my appointment with the pain doctor Monday morning. I was called into the office at about 1010 a.m. I should have been out of the office no more than 15 minutes later since this was just supposed to be a small discussion as to how I was doing with the latest pain medication that I’ve been trying.

Unfortunately my doctor had a Medical Student there and she asked me to speak with the med student first. I have nothing against speaking to medical students from time to time. They need to learn about different disorders and learn to speak with and treat patients if they are going to eventually become good doctors. But when I’m not feeling all that well, and I wasn’t since I only had two hours sleep and hadn’t eaten anything before the appointment, you don’t feel like going over your whole history with a stranger.

I ended up being in the doctors office until about 11:10 a.m. and we didn’t accomplish a thing! I didn’t get any new medications and I didn’t really get much of a chance to talk with my doctor about how the new medications are working – or rather don’t appear to be making much of a difference.

Why do I bother?

I see this doctor again in a month, and next time I won’t be talking to a medical student if she has one there because by then I’ll need more medication and I might want to discuss trying some of the other meds that she keeps telling me about.

What’s on your mind

October 30, 2006 by Tricia

I was just looking at my site stats on statcounter.com. When I go there I look not only at the last hundred visitors in my log files, but also at the recent search terms that have been used to reach my page. The following search term is what I found this time round:

What if someone says they want to eat you like a tub of ice cream?

>Huh? What did I ever write about that would make someone searching for answers to that very interesting question end up here? Let see? Oh, their search brought them to a post I wrote titled “Why do guys always want to get into my bathing suit?”

Well, that did end up being a very popular post, as it seems to come up in searches several times each week. It’s about a former boyfriend dressing up in my bathing suit – you should read it.

Nowhere in that post do I talk about eating – I mention the word dinner – but not eating, or being eaten! There’s nothing about ice cream there either, but I do talk about a tub, however it’s a Hot Tub. So I guess dinner and tub made my post relevant in their search? Geez it don’t take much does it? Actually the comment section is pretty entertaining for that post and one of the comments talks about ice cream.

What do you say? If someone told you that they wanted to eat you like a tub of ice cream what would you say?

If someones going to search for something like that here we might as well give them an answer. So tell me what you would say. Nothing too vulgar please.

Marry close to home or on an Island?

October 30, 2006 by Tricia

One of my friends is going to get married next year and she’s trying to decide if she should start planning to have her wedding here, or if she wants to have a small wedding on a tropical island.

I’ve been trying to talk her into getting married away from home for several reason, one being that I’d be invited and I need a holiday in a warm spot. LOL

Don’t worry my other reasons are mainly for her and her husband to be’s peace of mind. I think it would be more romantic to get married on an Island – perhaps in Hawaii? She could have a Maui Wedding completely arranged for her there if she decides not to have the service here. I know that there are lots of packages that she could choose from such as anything from a scuba wedding to a Sunset wedding ceremony.

She wouldn’t have the stress of trying to plan it all down to the last detail because the company that provides these wedding packages do it all for you from obtaining the wedding license to the photographer.

If I were getting married again or renewing my vows I’d certainly think about doing something list this.

What do you think? Should she stay home and have a big wedding or should she go to a tropical island and have a more intimate ceremony?
