My doctor contradicted herself

November 30, 2006 by Tricia

Aren’t doctors strange? I went to see my pain doctor on Monday morning. We had an ok visit. She’s really fixating on getting me more active – even though I told her just walking to the appointment caused me to become severely nauseated.

Ok ,so I’m leaving the office with the promise of getting out to walk more, because she thinks that will get my happy and pain relieving endorphins going, when I tell her that I’m running out of my pain meds (last major prescriptions was at the end of August- I don’t go through them fast, don’t worry!). Instead of writing me a prescription she says “Call your pharmacy and have them call us with a request, we can just fax them the prescription. It’s easier that way.”

I can understand some of the reasons why she might prefer to fax prescriptions back and forth between their office and the pharmacy … perhaps a patient recently altered their prescription or something, or maybe since she’s a pain doctor giving out a lot of pain meds she’s being investigated by some mightier than though government or medical agency that’s trying to make sure she’s not over prescribing. I’ve seen all of that happen before when I worked in a pain clinic.

Whatever the reason, she doesn’t have to worry about me- I’m using my meds but not even at the prescribed rate. If I was using them the way she prescribed them I would have needed more by the end of September rather than now- the end of November.

Plus- she’d just finished telling me she wanted me to get out and walk more. The pharmacy that I use is a less than 10 minute walk from the doctors office, and no more than a 20 minute walk from home. Between my walk to the doctors office, then the pharmacy and back home again I could have been out walking for a total of 40 minutes or more. Yet, she stopped me from getting the exercise that she’d just prescribed.

Yep, doctors are strange!

Thinking about getting a hot tub

November 29, 2006 by Tricia

I know I’ve talked about Chris and I visiting various friends and relatives this year who happen to have their own hot tub in their back yards. People like my brother and Chris’ sister! Well Chris has been pestering me “I wanna Hot Tub, I wanna Hot tube”.

He’s even got it all planned out as to how to fit it onto our back patio. Well, actually that part was my idea. Since our backyard is so small I was thinking that if we ever did get a hot tub we could maybe dig out the storage area that is under the enclosed back porch .. and put the hot tub half under than. If we did that we’d make an entrance into our basement so you could get to the hot tub from inside the house, or from the backyard by accessing it from the patio.

Sounds good doesn’t it?

Chris has been looking at companies that put in pools and spas and one that we both like is
Blue World Pools website because they have such nice products. They’ve installed over 35,000 swimming pools/hot tubs since 1982. Sounds like they have a good reputation to have been in business for such a long period of time.

I think we’ll spend some time looking over the site and the different types of hot tubs and installations that they do. I’ll probably give Chris the green light on the project at some point – but not this year, maybe next spring perhaps.

Do any of my readers have a pool or hot tub? Do you use it often?

Stop and smell the flowers

Wordless Wednesday

image003

There once was a kitty,
Who climbed up a tree,
I thought oh what a pity
and for help I did plea.

But as it turned out
The kitty was just fine
I should never have doubt
Oh how I wished that kitty was mine

There was only one reason
that the kitty climbed the tree
The blossoms were in season
while smelling the flowers kitty looked down at me.

Ok not the best little rhyme but I thought I’d do something a little different. Isn’t that kitten cute?

Emoze Free push email service

November 29, 2006 by Tricia

It’s about time a true “push” email service like emoze 1.30 came along. If you are interested in such a program you can download it for free at www.emoze.com. The program is easy to set up and you’ll using a Real “push” email program in no time.

In the past, this type of service was only available mainly in a very costly package and mostly restricted to a specific hardware and software platforms such as Blackberry.

I didn’t fully understand what exactly real push email was until I did some reading on it. I’ll explain how it works in case you as as clueless as I was to begin with. Emoze automatically pushes your email and Personal Information Manager (PIM) data. Data such as contacts, and diary scheduling are “pushed” to your mobile phone as soon as it is sent to you without you having to go through the process of connecting to a service every time you want to send or receive your emails or PIM data. Was that easier to understand? Can you see now why a service such as this would come in handy and how useful it could be?

You need to have an email account, and a compatible device – mobile phone – and that’s it! The current release works with all Microsoft pocketPC applications/ devices.

In the very near future a new release of Emoze will be released. This new version- 1.2 – will be compatible with the vast majority of Smart-Phones and symbian devices such as Nokia S60 and S70. Hmmm I wonder if it will work with my Nokia Smart phone 6882? That would be great if it does. Email and calendar reminders all the time no matter where I am? Great!

The Emoze technology is focused around personal and corporate privacy, providing one of the best security solutions available for mobile email. You can feel safe using emoze as they don’t gather or send information from your PC or in-box. Type freely as there are no cookies, no spyware and no duplication of user data on emoze servers. It will be interesting to see where this new technology takes us in the future, won’t it?
