Want to win $250?

December 22, 2006 by Tricia

I thought that would catch your attention. The folks over at Razz have a contest going on right now, and if you enter You could be the next RAZZ Idol.

That’s right. Just go to the site and use their Razz mixer – pictured above- and create a recording. They say that you can enter the contest by make a recording that introduces yourself, or perhaps a fake news report, an original DJ Mix, a Poetry Slam or Spoken Word, a comedy monologue, or you could make an advertisement that totally sucks up to the folks at Razz. Add a music intro to your recording too if you want.

I haven’t tried it out yet but the site looks very straightforward and easy to use. I most definitely will be entering the contest. They will pick 10 runner-ups who will win $25 each, and the grand prize winner will win $250. Winners will be judged by the staff at Razz and notified by email. You must use a background track, your voice and other sound effects to qualify for the Grand prize.

Good Luck!

Why I love Christmas Time

December 21, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things about

why I love Christmas

This is Thursday Thirteen #28

1…. I love how everyone decorates their homes. The lights, the decorations. I wish peoples homes were light up like that year round.

2…. Eggnog! This is the only time of year that I drink eggnog – with rum of course. Which reminds me, I’ve got to buy some eggnog because I haven’t even had my first one yet.

3…. I enjoy reading all the cards that we get at Christmas, but I must admit that I’m terrible about sending them out.

4…. I enjoy getting together with my family. I have one brother and one sister that live in the city or just outside it, but we don’t see each other often. Christmas is a good excuse for all of us to get together.

5…. It’s always a crazy time going to the in-laws. One reason why it’s crazy is that they never know when they are going to hold the dinner. It’s not always Christmas day. Often its a week later. So we have an extended Christmas period with my husbands family.

6…. Pumpkin Pie! I’ve mentioned my love of pumpkin pie before. If I’m going to eat pie pumpkin is my choice! My sister makes a very light pumpkin cheesecake that is to die for. I wonder if I could get her to make it this year?

7…. Snow! We don’t seem to get much snow here in December, or much during the other cool months lately either. Somehow though, it always seems to snow on Christmas eve or Christmas day. It’s almost magical watching the light flakes drift down.

8…. We didn’t decorate this year. I know what a shame eh? We didn’t do it because I just don’t feel well, and also our house continues to be under renovation. I can’t wait until the living room is finished so that when I do decorate it will just look perfect.

9…. I do however enjoy decorating. We put up lights on the outside of the house, and cedar boughs? along the front over the bare window flower boxes.

10…. Then I decorate the enclosed front porch with cedar boughs and I hang little ornaments in them. We also string some lights up inside the porch. I like using just white or just blue lights. I don’t like the multicolored lights.

11…. When I do decorate the inside of our house we have a nice tree- fake because of allergies – that I decorate with lights, beads, ribbons and home made silk ribbon flowers, and ornaments that have been handed down through my family from grandparents to parents to me.

12…. Oh other than TURKEY I really enjoy the rum pudding too! I don’t know if you know what that is. My mom used to make a soft fruit type of cake. She’d steam it just before serving it so it would be soft and moist and then we’d put a nice rum sauce on it. I haven’t had that for years. I’m going to dig out the recipe and perhaps make it this year. It’s very nice.

13…. Notice that I haven’t mentioned presents? I really don’t care about presents at all. I just enjoy the spirit of the season, giving gifts, seeing children smile and enjoy their gifts, and being with the people I love.

Happy Holidays – Hanukkah, Merry Christmas, Kwanzaa and New Years!

Deja Vu Telephone call

December 21, 2006 by Tricia

I got up yesterday and discovered that my brother had called me while I’d been sleeping. I must have been sleeping so deeply that I didn’t even hear the phone ring, or if I did I certainly don’t remember it!

Anyway, I tried calling him back at work, but I didn’t get him, so I left a message. So while I was upstairs preparing for the day – showering, fixing my hair etc I brought the phone into the washroom with me. No I don’t talk to people on the phone while I’m doing my business … I just wanted it near by because I figured my brother would call back.

So I’m putting on my face – I had a doctors appointment later that day, gotta look good for that you know- and the phone rings. I look at the call display and I see “Stylistic Engraving”. Wow, that’s a flashback to the past from when I was a jeweler. Stylistic Engraving was my number one competitor when I was a diamond cutter. So I answer the phone by saying hello and I hear:

“I need you to engrave two rings rush, can you do it?”

So I said … uhm are you calling E … I say the name of my sisters engraving company, and she says yes. So I tell the lady that she’s reached E’s sister – AT HOME. LOL

I have no idea how she got my phone number or why she would call it. I suppose it must be listed in her book near my sisters business number but that still doesn’t explain why she’s got my home number. Now, while they were my business rivals we were friendly, and my husband did work for them when he was a jeweller as well. In fact Chris probably knew them a lot better than I did. So maybe our number was written in Chris’ name? I don’t know, but it was weird.

I don’t know how many calls I answered when my sister and I had our businesses together that started with my Hello and their demanding a rush engraving, design or gold plating job. However, I haven’t heard a request like that for … oh .. I don’t know .. maybe 15 years!

Strange stuff!

The next call I got I didn’t answer. It was the Korean agency that has supplied us with Student Boarders. I told them back in October that we didn’t want to have any boarders in the house around Christmas time. Since then they’ve called us at least three times offering us a boarder. The last one they wanted us to take in was a 14 year old. No way. We’ve said we’re done with taking in anyone below the age of 25 or so … so I’m certainly not taking in a kid.

My brother on the other hand never did call back. He’ll probably call sometime today.

American Greetings online calendar

December 20, 2006 by Tricia

I don’t know about you but I really enjoy using an online calendar to list all of the things that I tend to forget about in. I already use an online calendar service but after looking at, and signing up for, American Greetings free online calendar I’m going to fully switch over to their service.

I use the online calendar to list appointments – you know I’ve got a lot of doctors appointments, family and friends birthdays, Anniversaries, and other upcoming events that I want to be sure to remember. What I really like about the American Greeting service is that I can set it up to remind me of important dates in advance either by email or by a message to my cell phone. I think that’s a fantastic idea.

Once you get a reminder for someones birthday you can just go back to the American Greetings site and choose a free birthday card and send it off to that person right away or schedule a delivery in advance. Another great feature at the site. Check it out- and get yourself more organized.

Hip Cat

Hip Cat

If I could have a cat for a pet, I’d have a cool cat like this one.

He or she looks ready for anything. Actually, for some reason those glasses make me think of motorcycling or scuba diving type goggles and every time I see this picture I think of the cat on a bike or about to go into the water for a dive. LOL

What does this photo make you think of?
