My Single Mom Life

December 29, 2006 by Tricia

I’d like to tell you about a blogger that I’ve recently met on the Pay/perp0st forums. Her name is Kat. last week when I was busy hunting down puzzle pieces for the contest that pay/perp0st was holding I kept running into her site, My Single Mom Life, as I searched.

Just as I did with some of the other blogs that I came across as I feverishly went from site to site in search of elusive puzzle pieces, I’d stop and read her posts. Yes, the writing and the content of the posts were interesting enough to make me stop and read even as I battled to win $1000.

Now, since I’ve only just discovered her site I don’t know all that much about her, but I’m sure that will change as I plan to continue visiting her site. What I do know is that she is a single mom caring for two teenaged boys. She’s stuck at home like I am, recovering from spinal fusion surgery, and doing her best to provide for her family on a fixed income.

I believe that she mentioned in one of her forum posts that she’s been blogging for 10 or 11 years! That’s a long time to have been blogging. She’s moved her site around a few times, so her blog, My Single Mom Life, only goes back to 2004.

She’s quite active in the blogging community from what I can see. She’s participated in the Crazy Hip Mamas Blogging Carnivals, The p0stie blog carnival, and memes like Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt and Thursday Thirteen.

Kat also writes about a wide variety of topics – one look at her categories and you’ll see that she’s discussed everything from family to movies and music, politics, religion, food, customer service, and quite a number of posts about Hurricanes. I suppose the hurricane posts are only natural seeing as she lives in Florida. She must be happy that this past year wasn’t quite as bad as the last few years.

I think you’ll enjoy Kat’s site. Why don’t you go visit her and tell her that Tricia sent you.

Exhausted ramblings

Thirteen Things I’M RAMBLING ABOUT …

This is Thursday Thirteen Episode #29

1…. You know somethings wrong when you sick at home and you feel … overworked. I’ve been working so hard on my websites – getting them started, making sure there’s new posts everyday, and then trying to find ways to make money on them that that’s all I seem to do from the time I get up, until the time I tiredly stagger to bed.

2…. I think there’s only an hour or two each day that I do not have a computer in front of me – whether I’m sitting in front of my desktop, or sitting on the couch with my laptop on my lap.

3…. I don’t even have time to visit my blogging friends websites anymore. That’s how busy I am. There has to be a better way.

4…. The reason why I’m working so hard on my sites is of course because I’m sick and therefore I have no work income coming in. So I need to work at finding ways to make money through my websites. It seems to be a vicious cycle though.

5…. If anyone has any magic tips on how I can make money at home and not kill myself by working every waking moment I’d love to hear it.

6…. Christmas- we drove to Brantford to visit with Chris’ parents, his aunt, and his oldest sister, her husband and their son. It was a nice little gathering. Only disappointment was that we didn’t have turkey. Boo hoo. We had boneless chicken breasts in some kind of bland sauce.

7…. I think I’ve mentioned before that my mother in law is not the best cook in the world. She made mashed potatoes but I don’t think she puts any milk or butter/ margarine in them so they were lumpy and dry. The other veggies were mushy brussel sprouts, mashed turnip, and over boiled carrots. The stuffing was ok, but it almost tasted sweet – I’m wondering if she put sugar in it? Either way I’d say it had the most taste! LOL

8…. the meal was saved by the desert. No it wasn’t my favorite for this time of year, which is pumpkin pie – it was Lemon Meringue and or Chocolate truffle cake. She served ice cream on the side. A choice of butterscotch or rolo chocolate. I didn’t have any ice cream but I had a small slice each of the pie and the cake.

9…. We still haven’t had any snow! I think we might get some on the weekend but I don’t have my hopes up. I bet if we do it will end up being a major storm right when we have to travel back and forth between Toronto and Brantford.

10…. Chris brought two of his guitars to Brantford with us on Monday when we went there for Christmas. His nephew plays guitar and Chris decided that it might be nice to give him a lesson. So he brought his Larrivee and his Gibson Ardy Artist. His nephew was thrilled and Chris gave him lessons for at least two full hours. His nephew impressed him enough with his talent that Chris actually let him play the Larrivee – which is unusual because he normally doesn’t let anyone touch his prized guitar, and even more surprising he actually lent his 1979 Gibson to his nephew so he could practice with it until this coming weekend. Chris doesn’t normally lend out his guitars either, particularly not to teenagers, and the Gibsons’ worth a few thousand dollars. His nephew is a really good kid though and I think Chris’ guitar is in good hands. Maybe we’re in the process of creating a Rock Star?

11…. Chris’ brother is coming up from Chicago – maybe sometime today. He hates flying so he does the long drive every time. The drive is about 10 hours. His brother goes totally into party mode once he gets here so it should be a fun time. At least I’ll get some time away from the computers when he’s visiting or when we go to Brantford to see the family.

12…. Then next week, Chris niece is coming from Chicago and I think she’s going to stay with us for a few days. She’s a University student and she still has some time off before she has to go back to school. So I guess we’ll be busy next week visiting with her and probably taking her out around Toronto.

13…. And now it’s time to end my rambling and go to bed. It’s just after 4 a.m. and I think it’s time to call it a day! Sorry this 13 wasn’t that upbeat!

Members of Tricia’s Musings?

December 28, 2006 by Tricia

You know what I find odd? People have been scrolling down my sidebar and registering to become members of Tricia’s Musings. I’m really not sure why they’re signing up though. Yes I have a few posts that I’ve made that I marked private that I suppose it’s possible that they could see if they went through my site, but it’s not worth becoming a registered member just for that.

I have about 10 members now. 2 of them I know who they are. They signed up with their name and website and I think they even sent me an email when they registered. When I first started this blog I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with it and I had thought that I might open it up and let members of my two websites make blog posts on it too. I nixed that idea quickly, but no before a couple people had signed up.

The latest new members aren’t signing up with a name or a website, and I think their email addresses look a little suspect. Well, I think it’s suspect to begin with when they don’t sign up with a name or website, don’t you?

Their email addresses end in .info or .ru – not all of them, but half of them and the whole address looks funny to me. I’m wondering if it might be people signing up so that they can try to figure out how to break into my site and domain directories. What do you guys think?

I think I might delete them from my site. If by chance you are reading this and you are someone who registered as a member of Tricia’s Musings would you please identify yourself and let me know why you signed up? Otherwise I think I’m going to delete the people that I don’t know.

The woman of your dreams

December 28, 2006 by Tricia

Do you know anyone that met their spouse online? Sure, in this day and age lots of people met over the internet and carry out long distance relationships that eventually lead to marriage don’t they. I remember when there was a time when people were very secretive about how they met, but even that happens less often these days.

Having worked in the Toronto Jewelry trade I knew many Russian men, in fact I’d say that 50% of the jewelers that worked in the trade were from Russian or Northern European Countries. Many of them went back to their homeland to marry their russian brides. Some of the marriages were arranged, others had been secured through services similar to the one that Loversplanet.com provide.

The men that I knew that had ended up marrying Russian Brides were, for the most part, quite happy with their experience. I met many of the women as well and they seemed to be happy with their new husbands and their new life in Canada.

Perhaps you are interested in marriage but you aren’t finding the right type of woman? Have you ever thought of learning more about Russian brides? Loversplanet specializes as a dating agency for Russian Women, and they introduce these Russian women to men from all over the world who are seeking beautiful, family and marriage minded Russian women. It’s said that even as young girls Russian women grow up thinking of family and marriage first. That’s not to say that they don’t want careers of their own, but they place family and marriage high in their life priorities. I can attest to this, as I have met and worked with a number of Russian women.

If you are interested in learning more about Moscow brides or perhaps lovely St. Petersburg brides check out Loversplanet and find out how they can help you, perhaps meet the woman of your dreams.

Santa Surprise

December 27, 2006 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

I couldn’t decide which photo to put up so you’ll get an exhibit today.

It’s Wheelie Santa:

1823

Santa exposed:

1822

Creative decorations:

1818

Yeah, you guessed it, that last one is an example of how to decorate with tampons! Whatever floats your boat I say. I think tampons might be a bit more expensive to decorate with than real decorations though. Maybe the Santa who’s exposing himself was showing off some decorations of his own?

I hope that you all had a great holiday! We had boxing day after our Christmas – it’s a Statutory holiday here too, however it’s like the American Black Friday because it’s turned into the biggest shopping day of the year. People start lining up outside stores sometimes as early as Christmas evening to be the first in the door when the store opens on the 26th so that they can get the best boxing day specials. Crazy Crazy day. I didn’t go out – I’ll do some “Boxing Day” shopping sometime this week though.
