Might refurnish the living room

December 7, 2006 by Tricia

Whenever we manage to finish our renovations, particularly of our living room I think I’m going to refurnish the main floor. I’ve been spending time looking at this luxury furniture site and I really like the furniture that they have on display.

We already have an antique dinning room set with Buffet that I inherited from my parents so I think I’d be concentrating of furniture for the living room. I really like the look of the Magestic Monte Carlo wall unit set. The description says that it fits a 50 inch TV and that’s what we’ve got. It would be nice to have a real entertainment unit as we aren’t using one right now. Oh we’ve got a special Tv stand for our big TV and most of the electronic extras that go with it fit underneath but I’d like to have a place where I could store the CDs and DVDs and other nick nacks. Have a look at the site yourself and see if you think you could use any of their luxury furniture.

How did St. Nicholas become Santa Claus?

December 7, 2006 by Tricia

So what are you guys giving people for the holidays or Christmas? Do you give gifts to you coworkers or if you are the boss to your employees or good clients? Back when I had my own business in the jewelry trade I used to receive more gifts than I could handle. Everything from boxes of chocolates to wines and liquors. It was the gift baskets that I really enjoyed getting the most though and that’s what I also usually gave to my clients that gave me the most business throughout the whole year.

Just how did the whole tradition of giving gifts and holiday gift baskets begin anyway? Well, it all started with the kindly Christian saint Bishop Nicholas. Somehow it was him that ended up being the model for our now red suited Santa Claus in North America.

It was actually the first Europeans that arrived in the new world that brought the idea of St. Nicholas with them. The idea of St. Nic didn’t quite take at first though as early 16th century Protestant reformists took a dim view of saints. They tried to stamp out St. Nicholas related customs but didn’t have much luck. Over in England St. Nicholas was busy changing Christmas traditions as St. Nic was beloved by the English commoners.

It wasn’t until sometime after the American Revolution that New Yorkers remembered the colonies near forgotten Dutch roots. A New York Historical society was founded by John Pintard in 1804, and it promoted St. Nicholas as the patron saint of Society and city. In 1809 the satirical story known as Knickerbocker’s History of New York was published by Washington Irving, a newly joined member of the society. Within that novel there were a number of references to St. Nicholas as a jolly character. He was no longer a saintly bishop, now he was an Elfin character of Dutch decent with a clay pipe! Irvings work was noted as the first work of imagination in the New World.

The first St. Nicholas Day was held on December 6th, 1810, and the first American image of St. Nicholas was created by Alexander Anderson. Nicholas was portrayed giving gifts to to children by putting treats in stockings hung over the fireplace. In 1823 a poem written with the title “A visit from St. Nicholas” later became what we know today as “The night before Christmas”.

Now you can be your very own St. Nicholas by giving a quality crafted gift basket full of gourmet treats to your colleagues, clients, housewarmings and as holiday gifts. Custom wrapping is available for holiday gift baskets just tell the folks at Gourmet Gift Baskets what you’re looking for and they do something to fit your needs.

A shave and a haircut

Wordless Wednesday

Uh I think this is taking things too far:

01

Would you just look at that face? I wouldn’t blame this cat if it attacked the person that did this to it. Oh maybe that’s why the job looks like it’s half done?

Is this some new kind of fashion trend for cats? Was someone trying to make the poor thing look more like a poodle or what? I wish I had a side photo so that we could see the tail and find out if the person left it bushy or shaved half of it. I think I’d be terribly embarrassed if my cat looked like this one does.

Belisi Fashions making a difference

December 6, 2006 by Tricia

I know that some of my readers must follow the world of High end fashion. Have you heard of Belisi Fashions yet? The Belisi brand started out with high-end ties and now it has expanded with a line of fashionable scarves and handbags.

Belisi started out as a bartender serving the trend setters that frequented the Palm Beach bars where he worked. He began investing in high end ties and wore them to work, in time his co-workers and clients noticed his fashion style and that was the beginning of his idea of providing enhanced luxury wardrobes to clients and making the world a better place at the same time. That’s right. Whenever you purchase a Belisi product a portion of the profit goes towards protecting the environment, seeking justice or funding medical research. Fashion with a heart. Peter Belisi says “Belisi unites the luxury and prestige of Palm Beach with Italian beauty and sophistication.”

Some of the designs might make great gifts this season. Have a look.

Arts and Entertainment Trivia game

December 6, 2006 by Tricia

Hey, I just came across and interesting flash based trivia game.

Play the game and you could win great prizes.

The game is a cell phone based, and it’s a Trivia game on Arts and Entertainment. Do you think you have what it takes to win? If you do you might win one of the great prizes that they are giving away like a brand new Sony Erickson cellphone, or maybe a Best Guy Gift Certificate, heck, you could even win an iPods. There are other great prizes too.

Just hit play and the trivia questions will begin. Use the T9 translator on the right to decode the numeric multi-choice answers to figure out the correct answer. It takes a little bit of time to get used to but it’s not all that hard. Give it a try.
