Learn more about careers in Nursing

December 8, 2006 by Tricia

I wonder how many people who read my page are nurses, or have thought of becoming a nurse as a career? Even though I haven’t been able to work for a while due to my Crohns, I can tell you that I love my career choice. If you’ve been reading this page for a while you probably also know that becoming a nurse wasn’t my first career choice. It took me a while to come around to nursing. I was a make up artist first, then a Jeweller to the trade, and only when the Jewelry trade went into recession did I decide that I wanted to make a career out of helping others.

As a nurse, I can tell you that you will never come home from your shift feeling glamorous, but you will come home from your shift most of the time feeling like you’ve made a difference in someones life. Whether that feeling of accomplishment comes from making someone who’s in pain feel just a little bit better, making someone laugh, or from saving a life – you’ll know you made a difference.

If you’ve been thinking of becoming a nurse or going back to school to take some specialty courses in nursing you should take a look at the Nursing Degree Guide. You’ll find information on the site about the various types of nurses/ nursing careers from LVN/LPN, RN, specialties and advanced practice Nursing.

The Nursing Degree guide also has information regarding the various types of Nursing Degrees that are available Online and in Universities, such as Associates Degree, Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree courses. If you are interested in getting a Degree you can read up on what’s involved in the course and the specialties that you can branch out into when you achieve your degree.

I really enjoyed reading this site and getting more information on the courses available to me. I was also pleased to find that if I wanted to take more courses that there is a way for me to take them online through the University of Phoenix, Kaplan Nursing and six other Colleges and Universities that offer Online courses.

I hope that if any of my readers have ever thought of a career in nursing that they will take a look at the Nursing Degree Guide for an explanation of the types of nursing careers that are available today. There are nursing shortages all over North America. We need more nurses to join us in our work. It’s demanding, but it’s also satisfying work.

I can tell you that one of the reasons why there are long waiting times in the ER and for surgeries is because of the nursing shortage. I work in one of the busiest ER’s in Canada and while we are likely one of the best staffed units in our hospital, most days we could easily double our staff and still have people waiting to be seen.

Screwed up sleep cycle

December 8, 2006 by Tricia

I’m exhausted.

I find myself staying up all night because of my pain and then sleeping well into the day. yeah I’m sleeping but my body really wants to sleep at night.

When I do get up my head is foggy and I can’t concentrate as well these days. I need to try to turn my rotten sleep cycle around again.

I’ve thought of trying to stay up through the night and into the day and then crashing sometime in the evening, but whenever I’ve tried that I only sleep for a few hours and wake up in so much pain that I’m awake for several hours before I can get it under control and go to bed again, and often by that time it’s like 6 am. Grrr.

I’ve got to turn this around.

Are you looking for an internship?

December 8, 2006 by Tricia

I know several people, who, when they’ve graduated from College or University end up having a hard time finding an internship so that they can begin their career. So I was pleased to see that there’s a website, UK based that puts companies searching for interns and people looking for internships together.

If you are looking for Internships Abroad then you need to check out this site.

The site is easy to use. Simply fill in the kind of internship that you are looking for in the quick search box, when you’d be available and what Country you’d like to work in (currently the UK and Spain are listed) and a list of available internships will come up for you to browse.

Thirteen Things about What’s been happening

This is Thursday Thirteen #27

1…. Some how I’ve managed to be listed over at The bestest Blog of all time as the Bestest blog of the day – Today.

2…. One thing that made him notice my site was that he was visiting Technorati and looking up sites that he links to or that linked to him and he says that my site had the most links out of all of the blogs he lists on his site. Actually I’ve been watching my Technorati rank lately and I’m pleased to say that I’ve reached the rank of 994 on Technorati. That’s amazing!

3…. I just finished doing an interview for Matt Clarke’s blog Mr. Joe’s Blog and to my amazement he published it right away So I’m being featured on two sites today. Coolness.

4…. While I was writing up that blog interview I filled in another one that had been sent to me by Blog TO. That’s a site about all the goings on in Toronto. I don’t know when it will be posted but when it is it will be featured in their Blogerati section.

5…. A few weeks ago I was invited to become a team member over at a blog called 192 Countries. The site owner wanted to get one blogger from 192 Countries to write in his blog and he choose me to write for Canada. I’m all signed up but I’ve yet to create a post over there. I need to make some time later today to do that.

6…. What else has been going on? Oh I’ve been working on Mr Fabs blogs – 4 of them! Remember folks I’m starting to work on peoples blog themes and doing sidebar fixes etc so if you need some help I’d be happy to help you for a small fee.

7…. As I weren’t busy enough I’ve been working on creating three new blogs. One will be my husbands and the other two will be mine. They’re called Celebrity Scoop, The Web Files and Guitar Licks. Guess which one is my husbands?

8…. In the middle of November I stumbled across 451press and I saw that they were going to be accepting new bloggers in a week. I bookmarked the site and went back and applied to write a television related blog. I just found out last week that I was accepted. So add another blog to the list of blogs that I’m writing or write on, this one is called Watching House and it’s about the television show House MD. I’ll be filling it with juicy tidbits about Hugh Laurie for all his fans out there. Come see the new blog.

9…. I’ve been feeling very guilty about not visiting all the Wordless Wednesday, Thursday Thirteen, Photo Scavenger hunt people or my blogging friends lately. I’ve just been so busy and on top of that I’m really not feeling well. I’m sorry. I will get back to all of my regular visits soon. I will.

10…. Nothing much else has been happening in my world. I’ve officially been off work with my Crohns for just over a year. Boooooooo

11…. Chris is working in his new job. I think this is his third week. It’s not quite as busy as being a porter but being a Recovery room attendant has been keeping him busy. The hours are regular and we should start seeing slightly larger paychecks coming in from his work soon. Yahhhh

12…. As usual I’ve been up pretty much of the night. This time though I fell asleep on the couch at about 10:30 just as I was going to start working on Fabs sites. Yep sorry Fab, it seems that whenever I’m working on your sites I get sleepy. I did have a huge headache though so that might have been part of it too.

13…. Nothing else is happening. I’m busy enough I think, I don’t need any other major stuff to be happening.

Links to other Thursday Thirteens!
Please only list your name if you have a recent Thursday Thirteen post

Grrr forget the Mr Linky I had an apostrophe in “What’s” in the title earlier and when I saved the post and continued editing it would let me set up Mr. Linky because Mr Linky doesn’t like apostrophes or question marks Grrr
