Puppy Love

November 8, 2006 by Tricia

Wordless Wednesday

Aren't we Adorable

Does anyone know what kind of puppies these two little ones are? OMG aren’t they adorable? I love puppies – even better than I like kittens.

I always wanted to have a puppy when I was a little girl but my parents wouldn’t let me. One of my older brothers was allergic to dogs, cats and whatever else that moved. I was deprived! In the end it was probably a good thing that I didn’t have a dog of my own because it turns out that I’m allergic to dogs, cats and birds too.

Such a tragedy really, I would have made such a good mommy to a little puppy. Do you feel sorry for me yet?

Happy Wednesday!

Smallest bathroom ever

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

I think if there were a contest we might win for tiniest bathroom in the world, well at least in Toronto.

The door to the bathroom swings inward – it misses the sink by a few inches. Once you reach the sink you have to squeeze between it and the tub to get to the toilet. The space between the sink and the tub is perhaps 1.5 to 2 feet- just enough to open the cupboard door below the sink. The door touches the tub when it’s fully open. The toilet is against the wall and when you sit on it- if you have long legs like I do your knees touch the cabinet below the sink.

Am I right? Pretty small huh?

Other than taking the tub out and replacing it with a tiny shower I can’t think of any way to make the space bigger. Oh I have one other idea – we could make the whole bathroom floor a shower floor and just have a curtain to separate the actual shower area. That might work.

Ideally … All of our three bedrooms are rather small by today’s standards. Our house was built in 1927 and I guess either people were smaller or they had no possessions cause the closets are barely existent up there too.

Anyway, back to my thoughts – Ideally … I would like to move the bathroom to the smallest bedroom, which happens to be right beside the current bathroom. This would make the bathroom about three times the size that it is right now. I’d knock down the wall in the current bathroom to make the middle bedroom a tiny bit larger- or perhaps to give it a walk in closet? Yeah I like that idea.

Someday we will do this reno, but that will be after we finish the living room dinning room, finish the basement and re do the kitchen too. Lotsa work!

So I’ve been checking things out at various online stores that sell bathroom fixtures and furnishings. I know it’s a ways off but it’s fun to plan and dream. I found a great site called taps4less.com that I spent some time browsing at today. They have a lot of nice bathroom furnishings at their online store.

Oh one thing I would really like to have in the new bathroom if we move it over is a spa bathtub. Oh that would be so nice. If I get back to work I know I’d look forward to that tub after a long 12 or 13 hour shift on my feet.

This is one reno project that I’m going to have fun planning. Have any of you renovated a bathroom before? If you did how did it turn out?

Our cable has sick signal syndrome

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

Yes, our cable – you know the stuff that brings in television stations, the internet and sometimes even internet telephone – is sick. I’m so sad.

The cable guy came over today. He arrived at about 12 noon. Right away he knew that we had a serious problem. The signal was very very weak … and our channels … *sob* were about to go to digital heaven.

The surgeon technician had arrived just in time. He continued to monitor the signal but it continued to be weak. There was a signal in but no signal out – it was … dying. We had sick signal syndrome. Outside he went and he got to work installing a new pacemaker cable box.

It was touch and go for a while. We thought we were going to lose the patient signal all together. Then, the worst happened. My cable modem red lined! No internet connection at all. The doctor technician went back to the pacemaker cable box and discovered there was a corroded cable connection outside. The wire was replaced.

Finally after three hours, the signal grew stronger and the internet came back online. Our system is still very weak, and needs medicine a service call to the area to fix the service trunk to strengthen the overall signal.

As long as the pacemaker whatever he did keeps working we’ll be online and be able to watch and record our favorite shows on the PVR, and then once the medicine kicks in service call is complete we should be out of the woods and back to normal again.

If by chance I disappear for a while, well you’ll know that the pacemaker cable guys work failed. We’ll be back after the transplant service is restored.

Cross your fingers that everything keeps working!

Celebrity Weddings- who cares?

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

Just glimpsed Entertainment Tonight and I see that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are going to get married very soon.

You’d think they were royalty the way the media has been talking about them continuously over the past year or so. I can’t wait until they get married and then maybe the press will settle down about all this wedding stuff and give it a rest for a while.

Of course they won’t though. Yet another celebrity will be in the news for eloping, being engaged or getting married. What’s the big deal. People get married every day. It’s a normal thing, and it’s supposed to be special, but celebs and many non celebs treat marriage so casually. Marriage is like buying and wearing underwear – you don’t just throw them out when they get dirty, you have to wash them and take care of them.

Are you as tired as I am about hearing about Cruise and Holmes and other celebs and their weddings?

My TV cable is messed up!

November 7, 2006 by Tricia

I’m mad at my TV or the cable company. I’m not sure who I’m mad at because I’m not sure who’s fault it is. Since there are a lot of shows on TV these days that we are interested in watching, but either don’t have time to watch or can’t watch because they are on at the same time, we’ve been recording them onto our PVR (personal video recorder).

A few times over the last week when we’ve been watching shows that we taped earlier in the evening or even a few days before we’ve been unable to watch the show. It’s all pixilated, digital grinding noise and just unbearable to watch or even listen to because you can’t make out the words. When this happened last night we called the cable company. We thought that maybe something was wrong with the channel that we were taping it from, but the cable company said that it’s a signal problem and if we don’t get it taken care of it will spread to our other stations.

The cable companies coming in to take a look today. I hope they can fix the problem. I also hope that we don’t end up having to get a new PVR (supplied from cable company) or else we’ll lose the shows I have stored up on it.

So that’s why I’m mad, I missed a few shows that I really like ’cause of that signal. Boo Hoo!
