Cracking knee

October 21, 2006 by Tricia

That’s sounds weird doesn’t it? Cracking knee. Say that 10 times fast.

That’s what I woke up with on Thursday.

I won’t say I woke up in the morning ’cause I didn’t. I’ve become extremely nocturnal in the last week or so. I was doing better for a while going to bed at 3 a.m. or 4 a.m. and now I’m back to 6 or even 7 a.m. I’m not trying to stay up. It just happens that way.

My knees have been talking to me a lot in the past two weeks or so. We’ve had cooler weather, a lot of rain and the threat of snow.

I’ve had bad knees since I was a teenager. I used to be a track and field short distance runner and I was on the Ontario Track team when my knees first started acting up. It turns out my lower legs aren’t put together properly. I have what is called tibia extortia which means my tibia- the shin bone – isn’t right at the front of my leg, it angles a bit more to the outer aspect of my legs, which makes the other bone – the fibula (that’s the one that makes the little bump on the outer side of your knee below the kneecap) end up being right on the side of my knee.

Yeah my knees look a bit odd. I’m mostly the only person that really notices but if someone were to look carefully at my legs when I’m sitting down in a short skirt or shorts they would notice that my knee caps actually point outward and the fibula bone is quite visible as a bony protuberance on the side of my leg.

Yeah I’m the last kid of 5 and I wasn’t expected, which means that my parents had me late in life. I figure I was a bad egg! I have one other malformation that I know of (other than having Crohns too!) and that is in my lower spine. Two of my lower vertebrae are fused together on one side. Luckily my back rarely hurts, so I’m assuming that so far this little twist of fate hasn’t caused me any major problems yet.

Ok so much for the anatomy lesson! Back to my knees! You might remember that I had a bad fall in July. I tripped on a weirdly formed curb, in the dark, and fell very hard right on my knees. I guess my right knee took the brunt of it and it immediately swelled up with fluid. Unfortunately, my husband was extremely impaired due to drinking a good portion of the free flowing liquor being served at that party and he thought my knee was only hurt a *little* bit, despite my telling him that I needed to go to the hospital. BTW I never say I need to go to the hospital, not even when I’m pretty sure that my crohn’s is causing a bowel obstruction. I hate being a patient. So if I say I need to go to the ER I really must need to go.

My knee was examined several times and It was determined that I had a huge pocket of blood in my knee cap. They wouldn’t know if I damaged my knee until the swelling went down. Well, the swelling started to go down about a month later but it would periodically flare up and swell a bit on and off until perhaps mid-September.

For the last two weeks of September I was happy to say that my knee felt normal again. But then the bad weather started and both my knees were aching on and off. Ok no big deal my knees hurt now and then, and sometimes hurt for months at a time. Plus I have Crohns and you can have a form of like arthritis symptoms with Crohn’s disease too.

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday – both of my knees ached to varying degrees. One day the left was worse, another the right was worse. Wednesday wasn’t bad at all.

Thursday I woke up (hey I’m finally back to where I started! Hooray!) and as I swung my legs out of bed I heard the oddest noise.

Crrrrrreaaaaaaaacckkkkkkkkk clack clack greeeeaaaaacccccccccllllllickckckckck.

WTF?

I stretched out my right leg again and heard that awful grinding noise as my kneecap first slide upward towards my thigh and then back down into normal position as I bent my leg.

Oh Oh what the heck is going on now?

The funny thing is that my knee didn’t hurt all that much. The snapping, crackling, popping and grinding noises sounded terrible, but there was a lot less pain than earlier in the week. Today it’s still making funny noises and it’s hurting a bit more than Thursday, but it’s still not as bad pain wise as over the last two weeks.

I guess I’m going to have to go and see yet another doctor to find out if that fall I had in July caused whatever’s going on now, or if it’s the Crohn’s, the weather or what.

Like I need any more problems.

Hey body??? You’re still relatively young … what’s going on?

Oh yeah- I was a bad egg. That’s it.

Loopy Love Online Dating UK

October 21, 2006 by Tricia

I found a site for my readers from the UK who are looking for love!

I actually know several people who’ve found love on the Internet. Two of them even ended up marrying the person they connected with on the net. Lets face it, in this day and age when people are so busy working, trying to stay afloat, taking care of family obligations – it can be hard to make time to find people to date. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with using an online dating service. It definitely works for some!

The service is called Loopy Love. Don’t you just adore that name? The sites front page states that it’s the Uk’s first free online singles dating service. Loopy Love members seem to be successful in finding a match because they state that there are two or three marriages every week! I know you might not be looking for marriage, but it’s nice to know that they are helping people match up with success isn’t it?

The site looks like it’s pretty easy to use. You simply register, fill in some information about yourself, tell them who your ideal date is, and how far you are willing to travel to meet your match.
If you live in the UK and your tired of finding Mr or Ms wrong give Loopy Love a try.

Leave me a comment and get a link!

October 20, 2006 by Tricia

I added a new feature to my site. Did you notice what it is yet?

If you look near the bottom of this post you will see a link to the people who have commented on this post- well if anyone leaves a comment. If there’s no comment yet look at the post before this one. You see the links?

I must thank Debbie from Blossoming Heart Capture for sending me the wordpress plugin – Comment-plugger.

The plugin is set up so that whenever someone leaves me a comment their name will show underneath the post they commented on, and if they have a website and left the link their name will be linked to their site. Cool huh?

I’m still tinkering with the set up. When I first installed it, the plugin was listing the commenters name in a long list. That took up too much space so I played with it a bit. Right now it’s set to show the links for the first 10 people that comment but I think I can raise that amount.

If anyone that’s reading this post also uses comment plugger and knows how to customize it even more, please write to me and give me some tips.

Anyway, I think this plugin is mutually beneficial for me and for my readers. Hopefully more lurkers will leave comments since they’ll automatically get a link; and I’ll get a few more comments. Plus Plus.

If the comment links don’t look right – misaligned, messing up the posts or whatever, would you please be kind and let me know? I’ve viewed my site in IE, Netscape, and Firefox and it seems to be working fine in each browser, but if it’s not working for you let me know, and tell me what browser you are using too. Thanks!

Online Coupons

October 20, 2006 by Tricia

Everyone loves to save some money don’t they? Well, I’ve been cruising around the net again and I think I might have found a site that you’ll like, unless of course you don’t mind paying full price for things? Nah, you’re not like that, you want to save money if you can. See I know my peeps.

What I’ve found is a site that offers online coupons for many well known companies that you might already be purchasing items from anyway. Why not go to this site and grab a coupon discount on a product you’ve been eyeing?

You should see all the others they have listed for Overstalk.com right now. There’s free shipping offers, Percentages off for new customers coupons. You name it. I’m sure you’ll find a store there that you’d like to do business with and save money at the same time. Go see for yourself!

WordPress haunted?

October 20, 2006 by Tricia

Have any other wordpress users had odd things happen when they were writing a post lately?

I have four blogs, and I use both WordPress 2.03 (on three of them) and WordPress 2.04 and I’ve noticed something funny lately when I’m typing out a post.

You know those tabs on the right hand side and at the bottom of the post? Discussion, Post slug, categories, optional excerpt? Well mine have been moving around on their own lately.

Yeah it’s true. So how could that happen?

I’ll be writing away and notice that, for example, the post time stamp tab is at the top of the list on the right. I’ll click on the post to save and continue editing and then the edit time stamp will be in the middle or at the bottom and categories will be at the top. This happens on both my laptop and desktop computer so I don’t think it’s a virus, and if it is it’s a pretty strange one.

Has anyone else had this problem? Well, not really that much of a problem, but irritating inconvenience perhaps?
