Colorful Canna Tropicana

I took this photo back in August. I always found it amazing just how colorful the leaves of Canna Tropicana can be:

cannatropicana

I brought my canna plants into my enclosed south facing back porch a couple of weeks ago.

Naturally one of the Canna Tropicana’s has decided to bloom like crazy now. I’m giving them a period of cool so they can become dormant, but not damaged by the much cooler temps outside. When the foliage starts to die down I’ll cut it off and bring them into my basement where it’s cool and usually dark, watering them perhaps once a month through the winter. I did that last year and my cannas did wonderfully.

I hope you’re having a great Sunday!

Gardeners, Plant and Nature lovers can join in every Sunday, visit As the Garden Grows’ Join Green Thumb Sunday page for more information.

Those Canna leaves are even more impressive than the flowers. Lovely plants and I hope your’s survive the winter and do even better next summer.

I love the coloring on the leaves of plants! Looks like an artist had one too many and went to town painting! Great shot!

I want a few tropical plants but afraid of the cold weather. I do see alot of what we called “Elephant Ears” growing here in Georgia but not sure how they survive the winter. I will be doing some research this winter for my spring planting!

Mine stay in the ground. I don’t think it ever freezes here more that the leaves…. It will probably never reach the tubers below ground. Beautiful leaves on that one….

Our neighbor has some very large canna plants but I don’t think the leaves are as colorful and pretty as yours!

    Enjoy your Sunday, Tricia!
