These Eyes are watching you

This weeks Theme is EYES:

eyeswatching

How do you like that one?

My eyes are the green ones – with flecks of yellow, I had a fever on Thursday and my eyes turn green or even almost yellow when I’m sick- and Hazel/ Brown ones (when I’m not really ill my eyes are hazel or brown). My husbands eyes are a grayish blue – kind of crystallized.

I was racking my brain this week trying to figure out what type of photo to present for this theme. Eyes, eyes … what can I do?

So on Thursday I held the camera up to my face and snapped some photos of my eyes. Then my husband came home and practically peed his pants (do men do that?) when he saw what I was doing. Hey, my pics were turning out … it was just a little weird. So he took over and took a few of the pictures. You can see him reflected in my eye taking my picture in the second eye at the top.

As Chris and I were standing in the kitchen taking pictures of each other eyes our boarder came home. Now, he was really puzzled as to what we were doing, and I don’t think he understood when I tried to explain that it was for a photo project that I was doing on Saturday. Oh well. He volunteered his eyes though- that’s his in the bottom right.

This project shouldn’t have been too hard for me … after all, I think I used to have some kind of eye fascination. You should have seen the walls of the bathroom in my first apartment. I spent a few months clipping photos out of magazines. Most were head shots, some were body shots, and for some strange reason a few feet fell into that pile too. Some of the head shots were large and I just cut an eye or two eyes out of several of those. Why? I don’t remember – perhaps I didn’t really like the actor or actress or think the face was all that attractive, but I suppose I thought the eyes were.

Is this starting to sound weird? It wasn’t really. Honest. It was just a redecorating plan and half joke. I haven’t talked much about my love or renovating our home, or painting the walls, or the venetian plaster effect that I did in our living room. I might if I feel better and my husband and I start doing more renovating this winter.

I had a room-mate in that tiny little apartment of mine. One night she went out to a party or a club and I stayed home. It was her birthday the next day and I wanted to play a joke. Quite an elaborate joke. Once she left I got out the wallpaper paste and my stock of clipped photos and I went into the bathroom. I think she went out around nine in the evening. I was just finishing up the job when she returned at oh about 3 a.m.

I’d been hoping to either be in bed when she returned or perhaps finished and watching TV. Oh well, she caught me, but I got to see her reaction. She loved it. It was actually pretty cool, a collage of famous and gorgeous faces. Here and there I’d placed some fantastic looking pictures of men – shirtless of course.

You wouldn’t think a bathroom would be a “must see” when new people came to visit, but it was. Just about everyone that saw it loved it. A few people who used the washroom or showered in there came out saying they were a bit freaked out by all the eyes looking at them, but they still liked the room.

People would go in and look at the pictures and try to figure out which actress or actor it was, or which model. I did that a long time ago. I doubt that that bathroom is still decorated with my collage of photos, but it would probably be even more interesting now than it was then since all those actresses and actors have aged or weren’t all that famous then as they are now.

I wonder if it’s still up?

Has anyone else done any interesting collage decorating?

Happy Autumn! It becomes fall at uh 4:03 a.m. (or something like that). Enjoy!

Son of Darth Vader?

September 22, 2006 by Tricia

My 200th Post!

Sleep apnea nose maskThis is what I’m going to be greeted with each night when I go to bed. Lovely huh?

Chris was diagnosed with severe Sleep apnea in June or perhaps early July. Shortly after his diagnosis the company that supplies the machine and mask called and asked that Chris come in to get his machine and be shown how to use the equipment. We didn’t know how much it was going to cost us so we delayed a bit. It turns out that our government actually pays for the machine ($750 or so) but Chris has to pay for the special nose mask and I believe the tubing. I haven’t checked yet but I think I can submit that bill to our medical insurance company and perhaps get some of that money back. I hope so ’cause it cost us over $400.

I still don’t really know what it sounds like other than the light purr of the machine beside the bed. You see, Chris was told to slowly work his way into using the mask all night. Which means he’s only using it for about an hour or two at a time and then taking it off. I’ve been having a very bad week with my pain so I’ve been on the main floor in the living room working on the computer when he’s been trying out this mask.

He’s had the machine for a week or so but hasn’t used it every night. However, on the nights that he does use it for a short while he seems to snore less. Hopefully by the time he works up to wearing it all night we’ll both end up getting better sleep!

I was pretty sure that Chris has sleep apnea for oh, pretty much the whole time we’ve been together (yikes 17 years!). When my doctor was sending me for sleep studies to try to figure out why I can’t sleep after working night shifts (even though I haven’t been working at all lately) I mentioned Chris’ snoring to her and told her that I thought he had sleep apnea, mainly because he snores, snores, then doesn’t seem to breath for a whole minute or so, then the snoring starts up again. As usual I was right.

I’m happy that we’re finally addressing the problem. It’s quite common for people with sleep apnea to end up having heart problems. We’ve already been through a heart scare with Chris. Two years ago he kept passing out at work and he had changes on his electrocardiogram that looked like a very rare cardiac arrhythmia called Brugada. He ended up staying in one of the best hospitals in Toronto for cardiac problems and had many tests, but they couldn’t reproduce the arrhythmia. That’s good, ’cause he would have ended up with a built in defibrillator if they had diagnosed his problem. He has permanent changes to his ECG but the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with his heart. We know something happened but we don’t know what. So far so good though, he’s been feeling pretty good for most of the last year.

I’m hoping that now that we are taking care of the apnea perhaps he’ll do even better, or that at least treating the apnea might prevent further trouble from developing.

Does anyone else have a spouse with apnea? One who uses the breathing machine? Does it make much noise? I hope it doesn’t end up that I feel like I’m sleeping with Darth Vader or something!

God! With my abdominal troubles and Chris questionable heart problems and now sleep apnea it sounds like we’re getting old. We aren’t! Look at that pic of Chris we’re both still relatively young, but I guess we have a few more problems going on then others. Oh well.

Irritation

September 21, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things that are irritating
1. Don’t you just hate it when people call and, if you don’t answer, they don’t leave a message? Sometimes I come home and find that the same number called 10 times yet didn’t leave a message. Hello, you obviously want to talk to either me or my husband, let us know what it’s about and maybe we’ll call you back.

2. Infomercials. I’m often up late at night because of the pain in my tum and I have the TV on to keep me company. By 2 a.m. most of the lower numbered channels have all gone to infomercials.

3. Not only are there too many infomercials on, but can they at least get people who can act? Has anyone seen the Magic Bullet infomercial? I think that one should win an award for worst acting, it’s hilarious. To be honest I think that’s the only one I’ve watched in full. I have no idea why I watched it, but I did. None of the others with their cheesy sets and horrible scripts have ever held my attention long enough for me to watch more than 1 or 2 minutes.

4. I have the TV on now and Fear Factor is on. I can handle watching the stunts – but when it gets to the disgusting stuff that the contestants have to eat I usually watch and gag along with them. Right now I’m watching people eat 100 year old eggs, hot peppers, live ants and get this “Fermented squid guts”. Ewww

5. Speaking of eating and drinking for that matter, people that make a lot of sounds when they eat or drink irritate me. I hate slurpers!

6. Or when people eat with their mouth open … that mushy chewing breathy sound. Drives me nuts!

7. Back to the phone again. Telemarketers always seem to call when your busy don’t they? Most of the time I just let the phone ring and I don’t answer it if I don’t recognize the number, but sometimes a number looks familiar so I answer and find I’m being asked to take a survey and divulge my secret interests and habits, or else someones telling me I’ve won a trip to a resort. Yah right- how much is it going to cost me to go on this free trip?

8. I’ve got an answering machine through the phone company and sometimes businesses and telemarketers get through and leave messages without making the phone ring at all. I call these backdoor messages. Now that’s irritating.

9. Yesterday I noticed that the message button was flashing on my phone so I called in to check my messages and I discovered that I had a message marked private. I’ve never had a message marked private before. Odd. You know what it was? It was a message from a local politician recommending his party for the upcoming elections. Here’s a big tip for that guy – If you want my vote have a human call me and talk to me, don’t leave a pre-recorded message on my answering machine after sneaking in the backdoor and marking it private. Geesh!

10. I guess if we have elections coming up we’ll have people from that same political party sneaking around putting campaign signs on lawns without peoples permission like they did last time. They did that to two of my elderly neighbors who don’t speak English well. There is no way that they would have given permission for the signs.

11. Bl0gmad and my credits getting eaten up so quickly – as quick as I can surf sometimes. Hey guys, I want total control over my credits. I have three sites on Bl0gmad and I’d like to be able to set exactly how many credits each site goes through each day. Right now I’m going through more than 300 credits per day on the site and for all I know perhaps only one of my sites is being rotated.

12. Karaoke neighbors, specifically my Karaoke neighbors. It seems to be the season. They had a party last Sunday of all days and by 2 in the afternoon they were blaring their Karaoke machine. Now this wouldn’t be so bad if 1. it wasn’t so loud, 2. If they could actually sing or 3. if they played more than 10 different songs. It’s going to be a long Winter if they really get into it again this year.

13. And finally, the last thing that’s irritating me right now is pain meds that don’t work, and that make you itchy as a side effect. It seems lately that at least once a week when I take a particular pain pill I become severely itchy all over. I don’t know why. Perhaps some food I ate for dinner combines with the meds and sets off the itchy side effect? Odd, but very irritating.

Have a great Thursday!

Oh a Bonus – Another thing that irritated me all day yesterday. People adding their link to Mr. Linky but not leaving a comment. Sorry, I don’t care if you were a Wordless Wednesday participant or not. If you want your link to stay on my site you need to leave a comment, otherwise I remove it.
