Irritation

September 21, 2006 by Tricia

Thirteen Things that are irritating
1. Don’t you just hate it when people call and, if you don’t answer, they don’t leave a message? Sometimes I come home and find that the same number called 10 times yet didn’t leave a message. Hello, you obviously want to talk to either me or my husband, let us know what it’s about and maybe we’ll call you back.

2. Infomercials. I’m often up late at night because of the pain in my tum and I have the TV on to keep me company. By 2 a.m. most of the lower numbered channels have all gone to infomercials.

3. Not only are there too many infomercials on, but can they at least get people who can act? Has anyone seen the Magic Bullet infomercial? I think that one should win an award for worst acting, it’s hilarious. To be honest I think that’s the only one I’ve watched in full. I have no idea why I watched it, but I did. None of the others with their cheesy sets and horrible scripts have ever held my attention long enough for me to watch more than 1 or 2 minutes.

4. I have the TV on now and Fear Factor is on. I can handle watching the stunts – but when it gets to the disgusting stuff that the contestants have to eat I usually watch and gag along with them. Right now I’m watching people eat 100 year old eggs, hot peppers, live ants and get this “Fermented squid guts”. Ewww

5. Speaking of eating and drinking for that matter, people that make a lot of sounds when they eat or drink irritate me. I hate slurpers!

6. Or when people eat with their mouth open … that mushy chewing breathy sound. Drives me nuts!

7. Back to the phone again. Telemarketers always seem to call when your busy don’t they? Most of the time I just let the phone ring and I don’t answer it if I don’t recognize the number, but sometimes a number looks familiar so I answer and find I’m being asked to take a survey and divulge my secret interests and habits, or else someones telling me I’ve won a trip to a resort. Yah right- how much is it going to cost me to go on this free trip?

8. I’ve got an answering machine through the phone company and sometimes businesses and telemarketers get through and leave messages without making the phone ring at all. I call these backdoor messages. Now that’s irritating.

9. Yesterday I noticed that the message button was flashing on my phone so I called in to check my messages and I discovered that I had a message marked private. I’ve never had a message marked private before. Odd. You know what it was? It was a message from a local politician recommending his party for the upcoming elections. Here’s a big tip for that guy – If you want my vote have a human call me and talk to me, don’t leave a pre-recorded message on my answering machine after sneaking in the backdoor and marking it private. Geesh!

10. I guess if we have elections coming up we’ll have people from that same political party sneaking around putting campaign signs on lawns without peoples permission like they did last time. They did that to two of my elderly neighbors who don’t speak English well. There is no way that they would have given permission for the signs.

11. Bl0gmad and my credits getting eaten up so quickly – as quick as I can surf sometimes. Hey guys, I want total control over my credits. I have three sites on Bl0gmad and I’d like to be able to set exactly how many credits each site goes through each day. Right now I’m going through more than 300 credits per day on the site and for all I know perhaps only one of my sites is being rotated.

12. Karaoke neighbors, specifically my Karaoke neighbors. It seems to be the season. They had a party last Sunday of all days and by 2 in the afternoon they were blaring their Karaoke machine. Now this wouldn’t be so bad if 1. it wasn’t so loud, 2. If they could actually sing or 3. if they played more than 10 different songs. It’s going to be a long Winter if they really get into it again this year.

13. And finally, the last thing that’s irritating me right now is pain meds that don’t work, and that make you itchy as a side effect. It seems lately that at least once a week when I take a particular pain pill I become severely itchy all over. I don’t know why. Perhaps some food I ate for dinner combines with the meds and sets off the itchy side effect? Odd, but very irritating.

Have a great Thursday!

Oh a Bonus – Another thing that irritated me all day yesterday. People adding their link to Mr. Linky but not leaving a comment. Sorry, I don’t care if you were a Wordless Wednesday participant or not. If you want your link to stay on my site you need to leave a comment, otherwise I remove it.

Having said that:

I totally agree with you on 1, 2, 3, 6, 6, 8, 9, 10, and 13 would definitely be annoying. I don’t watch Fear Factor, so it can’t annoy me. *grin* I also totally agree with your bonus annoyance! Happy TT. 🙂

    1. My voicemail greeting says something a long the lines of “Thanks for taking the time to call, had I answered we’d be talking right now so do me a favor and leave me a message.”

    2. 3. I LOVE COMMERCIALS and I most certainly enjoy infomercials. A few weekends ago we hand in impromptu infomercial watching party after our bonfire party was cut short by park rangers. Personally I love watching infomercial, pointing out (and mocking) all the fallacies in their reasoning and ridiculing the heck out of the actors.

    9. The purpose of marking a message private is to prevent the recipient from forwarding the message to another user in the system. Perhaps they want to keep individual citizens from using their message or something.

I can’t watch Fear Factor at all. I don’t understand why people voluntarily put themselves through the torture!

Yes, these are all tiring things of our modern life…it’s amazing to me these very kinds of irritants that more people don’t go postal….we need to learn how to simplify and enjoy lifes little pleasures and although I realize some peoples need their telelmarketing job…it is still an awful irritant at home.

It’s amazing you only found signs of politicians and their pre-recorded messages irritating. I can’t think of one positive thing a politician has ever done for us. They are supposed to be our civil servants, yet they get status as “leaders” The positive changes politicians have accomplished is due to the lobbying of their voters who forced them to implement important human rights and laws to protect us. Politicians suck, period.

I hope you and hubby can have a nice chill time over the weekend, it sounds like you neeed a good soak in bubble bath to decompress the irritations around you. I hope you get to find a way to laugh it off…how about a comedy movie over the weekend and a glass of wine?

Happy thoughts I am sending your way!
    Cheers,
    Candy

I know what you mean with Blog Mad. I too cannot keep up lately. It used to be I was going through about 50 credits per day, but now it’s over 200. I just don’t have the time to be constantly surfing blogs.

As for Fear Factor … I’m too weak stomached ..;)

Thank you for your insightful comments on our blog.

    Cheers!

I joined BlogMad but just couldn’t keep up either.. so you’re not alone. I asked if I could buy credits, but that wasn’t an option either. I know they are still pretty new.. but they need to pull their socks up cause they are in competition with the big guys and it ain’t working.

Oh and yeah I watch Fear Factor too.. I watch the gory bits even, though I’m peeping behimd my hands lol

I think my husband must have been watching late night tv infomercials too…. cos I was presented with a Magic Bullet from the kids for Mother’s Day last year?!!! And no, I haven’t used it yet to whip up any amazing dips, cocktails or pasta sauces!!

Are you on a “Do Not Call” list? I am, but they still call. I hand the phone to one of my boys when that happens. What’s Blogmad? I’ll have to check that out.

I’ve posted my Thursday Thirteen. Enjoy! 😉

Oh every single one of those drive me up the wall … well I don’t watch Fear Factor so I guess it doesn’t but it would if I watched it.

Before I stopped answering the phone unless I recognize the number or the name I got one call from a telemarketer which was a message for me to “hold” for an important message. I waited (like a dummy) and it was someone who wanted me to subscribe to the local newspaper. I already subscribe to the local newspaper. Geesh!

    Have a Happy!

I hate when I call people, leave a message and they call back without listening to it. I have two friends that have said, “Just don’t leave a message. When I see you called, I’ll call you back.” Am I supposed to keep a roster of who wants messages and who does not? JUST LISTEN TO THE MESSAGES!

I think the private message is hilarious. “Vote for me, but don’t tell anyone!”

    Great list. Browsing through TTs.

About the Mr Linky and link and run thing: why don’t you install the same plugin that I use instead? Then people has to leave a comment to get linked to. Send me an email if you’re interested.

And about the not leaving message thing: when I got a answer machine many years ago I thought that “it’s only my friends that are going to leave messages, younger people”. To my surprise, it was exactly the opposite, it was only the older relatives that did!

Chewing with your mouth open…bleh. I could not agree more.

  17. Shelli says

I am seeing this site and Odd Planet on BlogMad for sure. My credits seem to be getting eaten up faster than I can surf, too. I wonder why that is all of a sudden. I had to put a minimum on them just to keep credits in there, otherwise I was going into the negative numbers.

I hate when people call me when I am sleeping. I mean, come on, don’t they know I need my rest? LOL

  18. Barb says

#1 just drives ME and my husband up the wall. They complain because they do not like answering machines. And, they complain if you don’t call them back. AND, they complain, even if you aren’t home to take the call. IF it wasn’t for my Mother being old, and I’m afraid it might be her calling, I’d never call anyone back! Our a/machine picks up on the 4th ring, and most people know it and will hang up before the phone gets their number.

    My TT is up.

The telemarketers calling after 8 or around dinner time what gets me mad.
I just got a phonecall from a politician too, and I just hung it up, I talk person to person, not to recorded messages.
    Happy Thursday, Tricia.
