On Sunday, my husband and I were working in our garden and we started to heard loud Indian or Middle eastern sounding music. It faded away and then got louder again. Then there was the sound of drumming.
My husband decided to get in the car and drive to the park down the street to see if something was going on down there. After all it was the day after Canada Day and an interesting event might be in the works.
He came back and told me to get my camera and hope in the car. We drove to our local Catholic Church a few blocks away and witnessed a small parade.
We didn’t realize that our Church held a mass every Sunday for the Indian community. (yeah, we don’t go *every* Sunday or else we would have probably known about this). The parade was to celebrate The Feast of St. Thomas which was on Monday July 3rd.
We watched the participants parade past us in the brightly coloured Sari’s, colourful umbrella’s and an oddly decorated truck (it was wrapped in canvas?) that held a statue with another umbrella over it. The drummers were wonderful so I thought I’d share some of my experience with you today.
Very interesting, I’m glad you explained it! I love cultural events..I love to learn about others! Great pictures!! I bet the music was great!
Happy Wednesday! My WW is up!
I can see lots of flaglets or as we call it here banderitas. We usually put them up when there is a fiesta or a feast.
Thanks for dropping by.
very cool – that is so neat that you were able to catch this on camera. It must have been wonderful to see in person.
This is so cool. How nice that you were able to go and enjoy it! Thanks for the comment to let us know what it was!

These are the most amazing photos. The colors are so vibrant! Glad I stopped by your blog today. I’m a newbie, but I’ll definitely be returning.
Have a good one!

Great pix and wonderful story. I didn’t know about it either, but I DID know about St. Thomas himself. There is a private university in Houston which my son is attending, of that very name.
My Wordless Wednesday is posted.
Morning! Nice pics! Did you go there on a vacation???
Mines up. I’m late again. Babysitting the granddaughter here, on my two days off! She’s such a joy!
I’m Catholic and it’s sad but I didn’t know it was the Feast of St. Thomas last Monday. Thanks for sharing the information.
Have a nice day!
Great shots, though I wish I would have commeneted before reading what was actually going on…. I like making up the scenario myself….

My July 5th WW is is up. Hope you have a terrific day!
At first, all I saw were people wrapped in towels or sheets or something! Then I realized what the whole picture was. We love going to festivals!
That looks like a lot of fun! Thanks for sharing photos, as we have nothing like that around here.
My WW is up.
Great WW pics!
My WW is up!
Where was this taken? It looks like it was somewhere in India. St. Thomas is supposed to have come to South India and in fact was martyred there.
Great pictures for WW. Thanks for visiting. Happy day!
