Sick house

June 20, 2006 by Tricia

Why am I finding that having a boarder in the house is similar to having a child under 10 around?

Our first boarder had a cold and a cough while he was here, and tended to sleep a good portion of the time. Our latest boarder has only been here for a week and a half and now she’s got a cold. My boarders have both been language students from Korea. Perhaps they are coming over here and being confronted by North American mutations of the common cold virus which they have no built up immunity to?

Trying not to get a cold myself has been an ongoing battle over the last couple of months! So far so good though. Chris is no help though. I often use the same glass for part of the day as I go back and forth and get some water to drink. Well, Chris often grabs my glass if it’s sitting around. He did that tonight just as I was about to reach for so I could sip some water and take some of my medicine and I accidentally grabbed our boarders glass without noticing it was hers. Ahhh, a nice mouthful of cold germs got in before I realized what I’d done! Darn!

The latest boarder also seems to need a lot of attention. She spends most of her free time with us, and while that’s nice and she’s pleasant to be around, I’m still not used to this whole having a boarder in the house thing yet. I need and want my privacy back.

Between worrying about our boarders illnesses, packing lunches, trying to think up interesting meals and helping with homework I think I’ve become a pseudo mom along the way. Strange.

In other news –

I’ve been waiting for an appointment with a very good specialist for several months now. I was supposed to see her in July, but I managed to get my appointment moved up to tomorrow morning. She’s a gastrointernologist who specializes in Crohns (inflammatory bowel) disease. Finally! Cause my doctor sucks. With any luck she’s increase my meds or try some different ones and hopefully something will knock this ongoing flare of crohns in the pants and help me get better. I want to get my life back, and get back to work too. Please keep your fingers crossed for me! I’m a little nervous about the appointment.

Websites – my two new sites are both up and running and both have nice themes. I still have a little bit of tweaking to do on the layouts, particularly on the gardening site but I’m pleased overall with how they look. Tell me what you think:

I like the design on both of those. The plog is especially nice.

I will indeed keep my fingers crossed for you.

Now, as to your boarder. Do you have a blunt object of some kind? A shovel? A private area in the backyard where the ground is soft? Do you have a 25 pound bag of lime in the house?

I feel the most drastic solutions are always the best.
