My skin is so dry!

July 15, 2009 by Tricia

My skin is so dry. It’s been dry all year, but I thought that at least once summer arrived it would get better. I mean, it’s usually quite humid here in Toronto during the summer, but this year it’s way cooler than normal. Some nights have fallen down to 10 c (50 F). Weird eh?

Maybe it’s my Thyroid that’s causing the dry skin? 20 years ago I had a tumor on my thyroid that was pre-cancerous and had half my thyroid removed. Then, this past spring I discovered that I have another tumor on my remaining thyroid. I do take Synthroid and my thyroid levels are normal … but still … maybe I’m slightly hypothyroid. That can cause dry skin and other problems.

I think I might do a little research and find our which are the best wrinkle creams to use for dry skin. Also which ones are fairly inexpensive! I do use skin creams – facial and body, but they don’t seem to be helping all that much lately so maybe I need to change brands.

Can anyone recommend any good skin creams for dry skin? Again, inexpensive ones … we’re on a tight budget lately! At least if summer ever does kick in around here I know the humidity will help too!

I use Lubriderm lotion every day. It is the only kind that really works and doesn’t feel greasy.

I have the same problems (dry skin and thyroid problems for which I take synthroid – plus an early hysterectomy has made it worse). I never use soap on my face. I was using a vitamin E cream I got at a local spa, but I just recently switched over to Welleda products, which you can find in health food stores. I use the rose collection and I like their facial wash (cream based) and their face lotion. Good luck and I hope you find what you like. Experimentation can be costly until you find what you like.

P.S. Another option which is very inexpensive is to use Cetaphil lotion for cleaning your skin, which can be purchased at any drug store. My dermatologist recommended this years ago. I also think some of the Oil of Olay creams are very nice. Welleda, which I’m using now can be purchased at Amazon as well.

I often had dry skin in the Winter time. But it was when I lived in Europe. Now, we are in tropical country and I don’t have skin problem so often anymore.

I use Tiger Balm that I get from Singapore, not sure if you can get it in the US or not. You might search on the internet. but man it clears up every skin problem I encounter.

I was having terrible problems with dry skin for awhile, and it comes back every once in a while. External lotions and creams only help me a little to relieve the discomfort. For me it is a sign that something is out out of balance with my diet. Not sure what it is salts or minerals. Once I figured I was drinking too much coffee which can take minerals out of your system and reducing my intake seemed to help.

Check this out: my skin type is mixed. It means that i have dry skin on lower part of my head/face, and on the upper part i have moist skin. And what to do with something like that? Two kind of cremes (sometimes one is helping sometimes other). And that is not all because I’m alergic to a lot of things and it can be seen on my face from time to time when red spots are accuring and I’m starting to look like some sort of toadstool. 🙂

My Canadian sister-in-law from Deep River, north Ontario, suggested Aveeno to me for my dry skin. Not the cheapest of all products, but it works great.

I have used nivea cream for my dry skin and i think this the cheap and best cream. so i suggest you to try this cream at least once.

Cheapest and the best medicine for your skin is water. You should drink at least 2.5 liter of water every day and you will see great results after fifteen days. Creams have only the current effect.
