I was just looking at my desktop weather widget and it says that we’re expecting snow/rain all day Saturday, Sunday and Monday! Ahhhh! Scary forecast! More than likely if it snows it will melt pretty much right away, but soon enough the snow will be here to stay.
Speaking of snow and bad weather … Did you know that there’s supposed to be a shortage of snow tires here in Canada this year? Why? Well, the province of Quebec is enforcing a new law that requires all vehicles in the province to have snow tires and that’s created a shortage in the rest of the Canadian provinces that need them. I wonder if there will be an increase in the sale of tire chains due to the winter tire shortage in some areas of Canada where winter tires are truly necessary?
Here in Toronto it’s not really a MUST to have snow tires. As I said earlier it snows here and then it often melts away fairly quickly … well, except for winters like last year! I think most people in Toronto use All Season tires on their cars, but Chris was talking about getting snow tires this year. One way or another we’ll need to get new tires soon – All Season or Winter – as our tires are kind of old and starting to go bald. Definitely no where close to winter safe.
I guess we’d better start looking for new tires soon (and the funds to pay for them!).
Do you change over to winter tires in the winter time?

Yes! We most certainly do change our tires over to winter tires. People are crazy not to! Its like playing Russian Roulette!
Have you seen the midas commercial for winter tires? Where the cops are on this car chase and they both start skidding so much that the cars are stuck in one place so the passengers in each car go out and start pushing? Its hilarious and my favourite commercial right now.

I live about four hours north of you and there has been some talk that snow tires should be mandatory for everyone north of Barrie. Personally I have never used snow tires though there are days I wish I had.

Snow tires are the way to go if you can afford them, plus the cost of getting them changed over. Sounds like you are going to have to by all seasons as well.
Tires are expensive check Canadian tire for the buy one get one half off deals.
I hope we get a mild winter this year. Last winter was just too much to handle.

God, I’d give anything for either snow or rain (we get snow maybe once every 5 or 6 years). But I’m definitely into the rain. This weekend where I live (Santa Cruz, Ca. area), it’s supposed to be 90 degrees! Uggh! What happened to fall is what I want to know.
I don’t switch tires for winter even through I have a crummy drive over lots of hills to get to work. But then, we don’t get snow. Perhaps I would if it snowed here.

Here in Chicago it was snowing today (nothing major, some flurries and some big flakes that didn’t stick)
Over the years I’ve discovered all-season tires that have the word “performance” in the name aren’t good for anything “all-season” nor are they good for performance. So I’ve decided next time around to go with a set of high-performance summer tires and a legitimate, serious winter tire.
Chains and studs are illegal here (and pretty unnecessary) so that’s out of the question for me. That’s probably a good thing though because Chicago roads are notoriously bad even without the abuse of chains / studs.
