In my city, we are facing this issue in certain parts of town. In some parts, more commercial development is welcome. In others, there is huge backlash where residents feel they had something unique and it is being destroyed by typical commercial buildings. So I feel for you, because there are just some places that should be left as they are.

I’m not terribly happy about the construction in general, but being in the roofing business, I guess it’s hard to complain. Having a love for proper city planning and great architecture, as well as a strong belief in the preservation of interesting buildings, it would be great if cities took a bit more time to plan things out, rather than just going for development when times are good. You know?
