Leave me a comment and get a link!

October 20, 2006 by Tricia

I added a new feature to my site. Did you notice what it is yet?

If you look near the bottom of this post you will see a link to the people who have commented on this post- well if anyone leaves a comment. If there’s no comment yet look at the post before this one. You see the links?

I must thank Debbie from Blossoming Heart Capture for sending me the wordpress plugin – Comment-plugger.

The plugin is set up so that whenever someone leaves me a comment their name will show underneath the post they commented on, and if they have a website and left the link their name will be linked to their site. Cool huh?

I’m still tinkering with the set up. When I first installed it, the plugin was listing the commenters name in a long list. That took up too much space so I played with it a bit. Right now it’s set to show the links for the first 10 people that comment but I think I can raise that amount.

If anyone that’s reading this post also uses comment plugger and knows how to customize it even more, please write to me and give me some tips.

Anyway, I think this plugin is mutually beneficial for me and for my readers. Hopefully more lurkers will leave comments since they’ll automatically get a link; and I’ll get a few more comments. Plus Plus.

If the comment links don’t look right – misaligned, messing up the posts or whatever, would you please be kind and let me know? I’ve viewed my site in IE, Netscape, and Firefox and it seems to be working fine in each browser, but if it’s not working for you let me know, and tell me what browser you are using too. Thanks!

Ok fine, I’ve waited all of 5 minutes for someone to come along and comment, but no one came. Whaaaaa! So I guess the first link under the post will be my own.

Okay, okay, here I am. What is happening? I guess I will leave the comment, and then come back and look. I am confused, though. Isn’t a link automatically created? Or do I have this and not know it?

When I look at my comments if I over my mouse over the commenters name it shows a link to their page. Is that not the same thing?

Nope … if you go back you’ll notice that your linked name is right under the post … not just in the comment area.

Thanks for the plug and the link! I see you have got the layout to work for you instead of the long list. Hope my email helped!

I have been playing with the template all morning. I am not sure if I want to go back and redo my past posts but I am considering it! For now it will look as it does. Hope you don’t mind that I copied it from you. I plan to tweak it more later but for now love it as is! Thanks for the share and the link!
