This weeks theme is Sleeping:

Chris and Puff the Chinese Water Dragon –

Chris and Puff the magic dragon

Chris was spending some time with our water dragon Puff, but he fell asleep while watching TV. I took this photo about 8 years ago.

I don’t have any of my Chinese water dragons anymore. Now I know that many of you that are viewing these photos don’t care for reptiles, but these lizards are beautiful. Unfortunately you aren’t seeing the best of my photos because I had to find ones to fit the sleeping theme. I do have some beautiful photos of my dragons. In fact, three of my photos and an article that I wrote about the care of Chinese water dragons were just published in an annual magazine called Reptiles USA 2007. I’m amazed that I have an article running in a magazine for a whole year.

sleeping dragons

Night, Puff and Rogue all fell asleep together in one big pile o’ lizard. I miss those girls. They were my babies.

Now, as I said earlier, I know some of you don’t like reptiles, but if you are leaving a comment please don’t say anything bad about them – these were family to me. They were beautiful, smart and sweet.

If you are a Saturday Photo Scavenger Hunt participant please feel free to leave a link. All other links will be removed. Please don’t link and run either as that is rude.

I don’t know much about reptiles except they mostly taste like chicken. Personally, I prefer the chicken.

    Cute photos!

Silver when you google you’ll come up with my Chinese water dragon page! LOL

Mr. Fab! You’re not supposed to eat them, however licking is allowed.

Breigh – yeah that does look like his goatee goes on and one doesn’t it? Must be the shadows ’cause his goatee was actually quite short and well trimmed. Hey, it’s an old pic and old scan … that’s why it looks like that.

    Hey Tricia,

It looks like Puff is still watchin the TV!
    That’s cool.

    I like every animal.
I had a pet snake as a kid.
I want to get a Camelion one day. I haven’t done it yet because I want to create a really wonderful environment for reptiles in my home. I know what I want, but it will be expensive.(a friend had one, and it requires live trees that are healthy indoors.)
    I am content to wait.

    I like any animal.
I fall in love with all sorts of my friend’s pets.

That reminds me. I know a family with a turtle. They have bought 5 habitats for it as it has grown. It is very big. Their last habitat is the last one they can fit in their house. It is a 200gal aquarium..
If it outgrows that habitat they may need to find an adoptive parent.
If it ever comes to that would you know of resources they could use to find an adoptor?

What brilliant colors – lizards are just amazing aren’t they?
I love watching those Discovery Channel shows about them.
Every once in a while you’ll see someone walking along the streets with an iguana on their shoulder.
I wonder if that’s healthy for them.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Frances

Ok, I think of a car commercial for Dodge here in the U.S., where the little soft stuffed muppet-like character says

“Why, they are neither cuddely nor wuddely”

Ok– I didn’t say anything bad… I LOVE animals… I was only making a statement of the first thing that came to my brain…I should probably shut up now before I get into a pickle

REALLY REALLY cute babies Tricia… so, will you be bringing them to Cul-de-Sac?

It’s amazing how people bond with pets. I read a blog where a woman talks about her rats the way you talk about your lizards. It’s hard for me to imagine either scenario, but I haven’t spent a lot of time with either type of animal. Glad you shared them with us.

    My photo is up too.

Lynn there is a turtle rescue group turtle rescue org http://www.turtlehouse.org/ it’s based in Stouffville.

Viamarie, Mysterious Lady, and Friday’s Child- I take it that none of you like lizards. That’s too bad because they are very interesting creatures- each with it’s own unique personality just like dogs, cats and birds.

Mama Duck, Jodi and Frances – yep they were amazing pets. Frances yes people walk around with them on their shoulders every now and then. I’m not big on that idea since so many people are afraid of reptiles and well, iguanas can be aggressive. Iguana’s have tons of personality and they like to be the boss, if their owner isn’t reading them right anything could happen and that just makes people who don’t like reptiles think that they are right in what they think. We would take our big iguana outside to the front yard – two of us, and we’d have total control, but I would never have taken him out for a walk far from home alone even though I could read him like a book, just because of the prejudice thats out there about them. Plus I’d end up with a crowd around me and I’d never get anywhere!

Doc – no I won’t be bringing the lizards with me to the Cul De Sac. 🙁 I had 7 water dragons and all of them are gone. They were all rescues and didn’t come to me in the best of health but all lived for five to 8 years in my care. We thought about getting more when we moved into our house but electricity prices started skyrocketing here and as new home owners we weren’t sure we could afford all the extra expense since the reptiles need carefully controlled temperatures, special lighting etc. And no I know you weren’t trying to say anything bad. i”m not familiar with that commercial though. 🙂

Mushy- I got my first two water dragons in 1995. They can live up to 16 years but that’s very rare and mine were rescues so they came to me in poorer health than they should have. One died of leukemia, another fell and injured her spine which caused paralysis of her GI system- we kept her alive and happy for two years after he accident though. The others died of natural causes. I’d love some more but we aren’t ready yet. Plus we had a big iguana for 9 years combined with having all those dragons. It’s kind of nice to only have turtles now as we can actually go away for a couple of days without worrying about all the animals. (it’s very hard to find a baby sitter for a lizard let alone 8 of them!).

Karen- I didn’t think I’d get as attached to them as I did but they became family after a while. They were just facinating and beautiful.
