It causes the bowels to become inflamed (swollen) and makes it difficult for them to work properly ie digestion problems and uhm ... waste passage problems. The inflammation can also cause scar tissue to develop which can lead to strictures (severe narrowing of the bowels) and bowel impaction (blockages). I take medications to keep the inflammation down and some that help with digestion and of course the pain (the constant pain!). In all I take something like <strong>24 pills a day</strong>!
