also had problems with 2.8. Thing is 2.8 wants more than 16 MB cache at php.ini. Php.ini has to be set on 32 MB. Unfortunately this can only be changed by your internet provider. Php.ini is at the server configuration. When wordpress realized their mistake they came with 2.8.1, changing the chache back so it works with 16 MB.
When trying to to upgrade to 2.8.1 I got all kind of other errors which can be solved if someone has lots of time. So what I did change it back to 2.7 what I had previously and it works.
Right, good advice, to wait when new upgerades are available.

I am having problems too, however it’s weird. I have 2 almost identical blogs, different content but using the same theme and almost the same plugins. One works ok, but the other will not do an automated backup, which is frustrating. I saw that 2.8.1 ought to fix that, but I am also wary of installing manually. I love the automated upgrades.

I hope you manage to eliminate the problems.

I didn’t have any problems with this version, but I’ve had lots before, so I never update right away. It’s always something. Sorry I can’t offer any help.

When I went to 2.7, I was told to do a clean install except for .htacess, photographs and plugins. I was also told to not do auto-install.

I probably will not upgrade to 2.8 anytime soon. Good luck.

My problems with 2.8 are in the design area.

Copy and paste always creates problems on my blogs. I go into the style sheet, for instance, and try to copy and past something and get a “v” and a bunch of blank lines.

Also, it’s almost impossible to use with IE, so I’ve switched to editing everything with firefox.

Been running 2.8 on several blogs and have yet to run into any issues, unlike the last 2.7.x which constantly gave me fits with the editor very similar to what you are describing with 2.8. The issue must be somewhere between the applets and browsers and maybe OS.

Everything works fine using FF in Linux, but in windoze switching between FF and Chrome often helped.

Not a lot of help I guess, but the issue extends beyond 2.8 as far as I can see.

Try to add to wp-config.php this string

define( ‘CONCATENATE_SCRIPTS’, false );

This worked for me. But also you can use “Re-install Automatically” feature that fix this bug.
