After a few months, though, he settled down, both because he was getting used to his new environment and simply because he was getting older. I tablespoon of peanutbutter applied to the roof of a puppy's mouth is as close to an off switch as it comes. They'll be working for a while trying to lick it off, and will even give you a chuckle or too. (Be safe, and make sure it's not too much to choke them).
