I know. My site is a solid SERP #1 on Yahoo continuously, on a common two word phrase. When I saw it hit 0, I thought it was a glitch in my Firefox toolbar.

When I did a LivePR check, I was really shocked. Apparently I’m banned. Glad I got involved with other monetizing.

Good luck…and yeah, you rock.

Oh Tricia, they are driving me absolutely insane! I mean, if you’re gonna kick us in the rump – do it and get it over with, you know? All of this back and forth, up and down – is driving me NUTS!

Thank you! For a few years our webiste has been a solid 4 but suddenly it has dropped down to a 3…even though inboud links have gone up. Some PR reporting sites have us at 0! I’ve been trying to figure out what we had done to our site to cause this. Other than adding a blog last month we’ve not changed our main pages at all. Learning that it is most likely a Google hiccup or policy changes, over which we have no control, is not good. However learning that I am not going insane and making major blunders is somewhat reassuring…I think.

That is insane about your 12 year old site! Google has lost their mind, and their stock is going down daily. HA!

Jeff Quipp said in November 16th, 2007 at 11:28 pm

I know the PR toolbar is wonky Tricia, but what’s going on with your site traffic? Is it being negatively imacted?

Jean-Luc Picard said in November 17th, 2007 at 7:48 am

I know what you mean. My Technorati rate has slipped by 100 recently.

Hoto said in November 17th, 2007 at 7:59 am

i don´t know whats going on. i went from 0 to pr 4 and after 2 weeks i went back to 2. i didn´t even sold links to that time. i think companys like p should do their own ranking system related on visitors. or nobody blog for them anymore.

Dee said in November 17th, 2007 at 12:36 pm

You now have a pr of 3 again.

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:18 pm

John I’m still doing well in the serps. If you go to google and type in Tricia I come up second and my website (big one on exotic pets) comes up on the second page. I really haven’t worked on building good search terms for this site, but my name comes up high. Good to hear that you’re still doing well in the serps too.

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:21 pm

Lisa I totally agree. I’ve been kicked around since July when my gardening site and celebrity site lost some rank and then since the end of October I’ve been kicked a few more times on all my sites! Just get it over with and let us recover right?

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:24 pm

Jim you aren’t going insane. Google hit big sites like CNN and the Washington Post but for some reason their PR went back up … maybe they have an in with Google that we smaller webmasters don’t have? Anyway Google’s hit a lot of sites hard. It’s not just hitting blogs but blogs seems to be taking the brunt of it. BTW you inquired about my Gardening blog … tell me what you are interested in and we’ll talk. ;)

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:26 pm

Jules I hope their stock really falls now. I wish they’d just come out and say what they are doing instead of playing games like this.

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:29 pm

Jeff no my site traffic is the same or perhaps better. I’ve got over 5000 pages cached on Google … my traffic should be good! LOL I’ve never really worked on specific keywords for this site but I’m number two if you were to do a Google search for Tricia … it’s just the PR that’s affected.

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:31 pm

Jean Luc my technorati slipped a bit two weeks or so ago too. I still have a very good rank (I think my authority is now 700 but it used to be 1600!). I do attribute a bit of that to the fact that I don’t get out and comment on other peoples sites as much as I should, but my site(s) as still gaining links daily and or weekly. I think Technorati must have made some changes recently too.

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:38 pm

Dee this site was a PR5 up to two weeks or so ago and as I said in my post I really was expecting it to go higher since it gains new links daily. It dropped to a 3 two weeks ago and is holding steady for now. It’s my other sites that dropped to a zero (celebrity, gardening, two tech blogs, my husbands guitar and humor blogs and another general blog I write) … all zeros when they were PR4, PR3 and Pr2 before these drops started.

I’ve pretty much written Google off but it’s still hard not to let it get to me when I’ve taken such a big hit across the board!

Tricia said in November 17th, 2007 at 1:34 pm

Hoto is your site fairly new? A PR 4 would have been nice but at least you are still a pr2 … that’s better than my 12 year old website and my year to year and a half year old blogs! LOL

If you’ve been reading the I blog you should know that they are bringing in Ralrank next week so we’ll all have a new system that gages our site ranks by traffic/visitors/page views.

Once Iz is fully up and running in January anyone will be able to sign up – not necessarily to make money through the system but to use it as a ranking system … you know if they promote it properly it could replace Google and a lot of other stat sites. Keep an eye on this! It’s going to be BIG!

Hoto said in November 17th, 2007 at 2:48 pm

It´s me again tricia. good to here that p doing a ralrank because i just went from 2 to 0 !!! rrrrrr

I hate Google. I hate Google Adsense. I hate Google Adwords. They are evil and karma is a bitch! It will all come back to bite them someday, and you will be the better for it. Don’t stress on it. You still have a good site that people follow. So who cares what Google says.

I just joined P this evening so looking forward to the challenge. My Technorati rank plummeted a few weeks back but my blog PR is steady at 5 and hasn’t changed.

JasonJ said in November 18th, 2007 at 1:20 am

It is really crazy. All my blogs went from PR 3 to PR 1 on this update, even though I have thousands of inbound links and my blogs are over 1 year old…. I know that’s not 12 years old, but still crazy. I feel you pain.

Randy said in November 18th, 2007 at 3:17 am

Is anyone actually seeing traffic down, or just not liking their lowered page ranks? If it’s just a lower page rank, then who cares, right?

Jeff Quipp said in November 19th, 2007 at 9:36 am

@ Randy … precisely. Toolbar PageRank is merely a red herring!

beth said in November 20th, 2007 at 4:08 am

I got knocked down from a PR5 to a PR3 about 2 weeks ago on one site and from a PR3 to a PR2 on a new site I have. I hear they have really hit the blogs that do P and from what I can tell that’s pretty much true. Of course, there are others.

I took the ‘no-follow’ stuff off my blogs because I have heard that is a trigger to get PR reduced. I’ve also changed all my categories so that nothing has any keywords that would trigger the bots to think they are paid (hopefully!).

They are saying they are doing it to have more accurate ratings as opposed to ratings that are falsely inflated because of buying links, etc. But they are also putting in misleading searches (i can’t find the link to the article I read about that earlier this evening or I’d put it here). It seems to me they are just taking more control of the nets and hammering down some of their potential competition.

My google adsense earnings have gone down by half even though I haven’t seen that much difference in terms of traffic from google searches. Of course, it has drastically affected what I can make with P.

Your rank could have been affected due to a lot of your backlinks getting their page rank reduced as well. But its more likely a wonk from Big Brother Google.
