Ignorance is bliss so they say. Your in-laws probably come across as clueless because you seem like you don't make a song and dance about you condition. Perhaps you should start: The video was a great idea.

I had a childhood friend who grew up with Chron's. It was really tough on him and his family because he would have to miss school, sometimes for up to a couple months at a time. It's a devastating disease that is not something to be joked about or taken lightly.

How insensitive! I had a coworker who almost died from Crohn's. But, before that, I knew it was a bad disease. Perhaps you should leave some brochures laying out on the coffee table when they visit? Slip a video on Crohn's Disease in the TV? Change the homepage on their computers?

I have degenerating disks in my lower back, one of which is herniated and one has a bulge that gives me sciatica. The pain is something I have learned to live with except when it is critical. My sisters told my son that I use my back for an excuse not to do things. This was my family, not in-laws.

God bless you, girl.
