Hey Tricia, Your plans for your basement sound awesome! Have you looked into a basement waterproofing or water control system where you live? It is soooo important! Even if you have NEVER had any problems with leaks or too much moisture, it will eventually happen. Rod ties in the foundation wall disintegrate over time, which lets water through. Water pressure can build from back fill saturation and the landscaping of your neighborhood can change, causing you and your basement a lot of hassle.

Make sure to protect your large investment! I would hate to think of your beautiful flat screen and home theater (let alone someone's bedroom) being ruined from moisture or water leaks.

Make sure to have a professional to put up a strong vapor barrier on the concrete walls before you have any finished walls put up. That vapor barrier should be tied into an indoor, underground drainage system that leads to a sump pump to be pumped out. Do your research on local companies and their reputations! Someone who has been in business a while is of course your best bet.

If you are investing quite a bit to do the finishing, isn't it worth it to invest the money to do it right? I hope your project turns out fantastic! :)

I also would like to renovate my basement. Nowadays it's used as a playroom with a tent in the middle, but we would like to set up a room with a small bar, sofas, tv, etc. A home theater is a wonderful idea.

We just had our basement finished in our new home, which was two weeks of waiting and wondering how things would end up. We were pleasantly surprised at the final results.

Didn't get a home theater room, but I did get my huge computer room and a huge playroom for the kids.
