I had a wonderful Boston Terrier named Charlie. I adopted him from a "friend of a friend" whose 90 year old mother had to give him up because she was going into a nursing home. I took him reluctantly because I already had an 11 year old collie-mix named Latke who wasn't crazy about other dogs, and 3 cats...one of whom was diabetic. So, I was worried about the stress on the other critters. I needn't have worried. Charlie was one of the most gentle, kindest, loving creatures to grace this earth. He was just a month shy of 2 yrs old when I got him and very energetic. He calmed down quite a bit after he was neutered, and as he grew older he became more of a couch potatoe, though he never lost his playfulness or "joie de vivre". He became best friends with a kitten I adopted a couple of years later, Raja. From the time Raja was tiny until he grew to a hefty 17lbs (Charlie averaged about 30 lbs), the two of them would wrestle and play like a couple of bear cubs...Charlie always knowing instinctively when to back off. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. In February of 2006 at age 9yrs, Charlie began having a series of seizures attributed to a brain tumor. Within a week of the first seizure, we had to make the sad decision to put him down. My family and I are still grieving for this little soul. I love all animals and miss my dogs terribly (Latke died in 2002 at age 16yrs). Unfortunately, I'm not in a position financially right now to care for another pet. But, guaranteed, when things lighten up a bit, I will adopt another...and I would love to have another Boston.

I prefer a dog that doesn't shed myself. I have a Maltese. She is easier on our allergies here. Any medium or small bredd is OK in my book though. I love htem. I just tend to only commit to those who don't leave hair all over my bed ;)

Have you heard of a "chinpoo?" I was at a pet store and apparently there's this breed named as such.

Call me crazy, or obstinate, but I live in Boston and I don't favor Boston terriers or even Boston cream pie. Instead, I own a Lhasa apso. I got him 2 years ago. I thought and deliberated for years over whether I should I get a dog. And guess what? It's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Do it! True, it costs a lot to have a dog ($55 for a vet visit; each bone he eats costs about $2.50), but the rewards are tremendous. Get that Boston terrier!
