Martin I've had an experience like that where I almost stepped on a fawn. It's amazing how they blend right in isn't it? I'm glad to hear that "Mom" decided to come out of hiding after a while and that it seems you didn't hurt the fawn.

You guys know that isn't a photo of my mom's deer right? I probably shouldn't have added the story of her pet fawn to this photo post ... I think I confused ya.

About 5 years ago, I was fishing in the Musquodoboit River and I accidentally STEPPED ON a baby deer. It made a disturbing noise, sort of a cry and sort of a squeal. I was quite sure that I hadn't hurt it, but I examined it to be certain. I lifted it to its feet and it was able to stand and walk, though it was trembling. I wanted to be sure it hadn't been orphaned, so I stepped back a few paces and stood still and silent, listening to see if the mother was nearby. After a LONG awkward silence, the doe lost her patience and burst into the clearing with a snort. She ran across the small expanse of tall grass and back into the bushes. I left after that hoping that they would both go back to business as usual.
